I keep remembering the computers at New Infinities in 1987 or so.

We each had a Mac Plus.

We spent $1000.00 to buy a hard drive that would hold everything we could produce -- an entire Megabyte.

Guys, January isn't completely horrible.

Lots of people get cash for Christmas, or bring back presents for refunds, or get a computer/smart phone/Ipad for the first time, and start shopping on Ebay. I've had some pretty great Januarys.

Off-topic, but something you guys might know:
I need to find an online store that sells the kind of paper that resembles old-fashioned maps.

I don't know what this type of paper is called, and doing a search on terms like "maps", "cartography", "special paper", etc, yields just too many hits.

My nephew wants this for a Christmas present so he can make his own maps for wargames.

I'm thinking of a type of paper that is similar to the texture of the OD&D supplements.

Thoughts, anyone? Anyone? Bueller? Bueller?

Yes, and it's technically not paper. It's sheepskin (actually lambskin).. the stuff they (used to) print diplomas on.

If you just need to create something that looks like old parchment or vellum, say for a game handout, you can just take a blank piece of regular paper, scrunch it up a bit and soak in some coffee or tea. Then lay someplace to dry. It works.

I don't think my sister-in-law wants to go to that much trouble.
My nephew is in 3rd grade, so I think she envisions something like a big roll of butcher paper, but has a vellum or parchment paper (thanks, Mark) feel to it.

Evidently, the school supply shops in town either do not have this, or they do not have enough in stock.

It's sold as parchment-style "resume paper" online at Amazon, Office Max, etc.

****Gnat, didn't you go searching for varieties of faux-parchment paper, only to find that many 1970s styles are no longer manufactured?

A quick alternative is to purchase a cheap pad of brown recycled newsprint paper.

These make convincing maps.

That might be what she's after. Apparently all 3 of my nephews want in on this. The family is big on playing A&A, and want to draw combat maps.

That would give it the look of those bills and posters cranked out in the Civil War.
