I am getting that I only read the posts from the EO committee members on this thread.
I can usually summarize the rest with the following:

Bitch, bitch, bitch!
Moan, whine, moan!
Shut your pie hole!
No! You shut your pie hole!
I want the last word!
No! I want the last word!

And so on...

I've spoken my peace and will say no more on the topic.  No anger from me either, just a sense of dissapointment at the loss of what could have been a community project that left no one out.  I believe $50 is chump change to everyone here.

Even the $2500 up front cost is small potatoes to at least a few dozen of us for this type of a project (it isn't like there is much risk in selling a limited edition Erol Otus print!)  And that $2500 artist fee doesn't change whether you print 50 copies or 100. The cost per copy of the producing the actual print is only $5 or so, and it isn't like 100 copies wouldn't sell out in a week, especially if you allowed people to buy more than 1.

OK... NOW I will say no more on the topic!  :P

Sure, Ian, I'd be willing to pay in advance.

(Hint to everyone else:  this is the start to the new official list of participants in the project, so don't miss out this time!)

If the committee requires it, I would be willing to pay up-front also.

I was under the impression that paying up front was the way it was going to done from the beginning.
Once the artists costs, printing company, printing costs, and shipping costs (All the costs) were known and the work was completed by Erol Otis that is.

That said, put me on a list or something.
I want five (yes 5) copies BTW.  8O

Where was that Orange B3 again?

Some here know that I can and will commit funds for projects and I am seldom hesitant about doing so.
(Read the above-mentioned RJK thread, though you should set aside some time).
As opposed to the RJK situation; being kept in the dark is NOT an issue here as the EO committee has been standing by (from the beginning) ready to answer any valid concerns and they will continue to do so throughout this project, of that no one need be concerned.
Besides, I know where most of those guys live…  8O ( ) that was a jest guys.

As for me, Money was NOT the reason I removed my name from the Elite 50 list.
Nor was there a concern (on my part) regarding the EO committee members, or worries about whether the project would be completed.
There was of course no BRIBE from someone on the outside looking in with a fistful of money and even more envy.
Nor was there some Elite 50 insider, looking to score another copy for the vault.
And it was most certainly not because I was concerned that my investment might be for naught.
I would be willing to invest a hell of a lot more than $50 on a Signed EO Print.

I am one of those who felt (From the start) that printing 75 rather than 50 copies would not destroy anyone's ability to call their EO print a Rare Collectable and a Treasure to be held in highest regard.
That is the only reason that some members here have urged (and some even demand) that the number of copies of the EO Prints be held at 50 copies and no more.
The difference between 50 and 75 copies of any collectable rarity in ANY form of collectables is such a non-starter issue and such a bad argument as to make the person(s) arguing from that standpoint appear to be self serving, stubborn, and perhaps even a bit hateful.

Others have stated that there is a (realistic) concern that a few folks will back out for various reasons.
OK; lets suppose that another half dozen members (or ten for that matter) will back out after the order has been placed and the money is due.
First off, some members have stated that they will help (with funding) if that becomes an issue (As would I, though I honestly doubt it would be a concern).
How many here would jump on a chance at buying TWO or even THREE copies?
How long do you think it would take Mike to sell a few extra copies on E-Bay?
A starting bid of whatever the cost was, plus Shipping etc.
Sheese, they would be gone in one week of listings.
It is an original VERY LIMITED SIGNED Print by Erol Otis.
No matter that the piece has a blurb someplace on it with the word Acaeum……
Art lovers could care less.
True fans of Erol Otis's work will not care at all, and some might not even notice it (perhaps none outside this forum).
I suspect even I could easily sell at least a half dozen Prints inside and outside this forum.
(although it would take me longer of course)

Again the money must be attained up front.... before printing.
Yeah, and several members here would happily offer up the money to fund any and all unspoken for copies.
I would be among them.
(Please limit my funding to 5 copies though; I still haven't dug out that Orange B3)

As has been said (in this thread and others) more than once, the only other easily discussed argument is that of Badmikes unenviable task and vital responsibility as the shipping center for the finished art piece.
Easy for us anyway, not so sure about Mike though.
But, Mike is an E-Bay Store Owner and re-seller.
It is how he makes his living, and he has been doing that for MANY years.
Shipping out 75, as opposed to 50 individual mailings seems like no huge difference to me, except for the obvious difference in time and effort.
Plus there are those here who have offered help with the mailings, and there are several other members here who would volunteer time and effort in a heartbeat second to help him with that.
I would and I live close enough to actually do so at his place.

Sorry Mike, as you and many here know, I say what I think.
And sometimes post before thinking.

Some concern has also been stated about possible lost or damaged pieces.
This one is (IMO) the most legitimate reason for limiting the number of prints, yet still I think not enough to limit it to 50 rather than 75 copies.
IMO (spoken as a buyer rather than as a seller) the risks are not THAT much greater.
Those of us who purchase collectables that must then be shipped; KNOW fully well that there are risks for anything you purchase no matter where or how far that package travels.
There is a VERY good chance that your shipment gets to you.
There is however, a slight risk of one or two things going badly.
Damage or a complete loss of the package.
I am assuming Mike will insist on Insurance and some form of tracking for each package, perhaps a signature confirmation as well.
(I certainly would)

Therefore; that argument is also a non-starter IMO.
As some have said (From BOTH sides of this discussion) it is ONLY $50 BUCKS!
Your investment vs risk is still next to nothing.
And it is in fact going to be a wonderful piece of artwork.

There are also the printing issues, of which I shant speak to, since I have no clue.
How much more time and trouble (and/or Expense) is it to print 75 vs 50 copies?
The EO committee knows and are/have researched that issue for hundreds of hours.
They know what is what with those concerns.

This will not be my last post to this thread.
(Unless Foul deletes the thread, or I get booted off, the last being more likely)
In the first place, I do believe the Artists work has not yet been completed (Perhaps not even started).
After that?
.... It's a LONG time before winter guys and the order for copies (as far as I know) has not been placed yet either.

I shall fight on! :!:
(Not literally)

I am willing to pay up front but let us give the committee time to establish the final costs.

I got $50+ right here ready to roll if such a request were to come my way.

And I got no problem with waiting over a year if need be.

Firstly, I trust the guys on the committee 100% in making the decisions  that need to be made ("right decision" is very subjective) - that's what they're there for.

The number of prints doesn't matter to me. My print would be of no less value to me if it was one of 50 or one of seventy five. It's something done with the guys on here. Part of the Acaeum.

I know I'll be only one of a couple of people on the continent with one anyway  8O  And it wouldn't be going anywhere but my wall. 8)

.....And I'm happy to pay at any time also.

If asked to pay, which I have not been, I would do so. I said that in another thread, or even this one, in fact. But, when it comes time to do so... it is done.

I, too, am happy to pre-pay. I also understand it could be as much as a year later to get the print, depending on if the artist wants to be paid up front, and how much lead time he needs  (Some of the artists we use at Reaper have a 1 year lead time to even start a project).

I would be happy to prepay for the print and whatever other associated costs need to be dealt with ahead of time such as packing materials and the like.

Well, as many people have pointed out over the years, I'm nothing if not a great problem-solver ...

Guys, I've got this figured out: screw the committee, screw these elitists "lists," and screw Erol Otus, too! Okay, not Erol. Forget that part.

It's easy to just go around this alleged "committee" and these fascist lists by ordering your own Erol Otus book, directly from me, for the low price of $49.12. Notice the 88 cents of savings, too.

This is a real book, produced on my laptop in iPhoto and printed by the fine folks at Apple. It's not much in the size department, but it's 24 pages of ultimate EO awesomeness. Just look at this satisfied customer:

Image

(Wow, someone tell that guy to step closer to the razor next time ...)

Or, for just $1 per visit, you can check out my gallery of nearly 200 Erol Otus works. What a bargain! It's like I'm giving this stuff away.

Click here for Erol Otus art

Problem solved. My work here is done.

+++++

Okay, lame attempt at humor (although the book and the link are both real, for the record). But it's killing me to see so many of my virtual friends at each other's throats over something that, at the end of the day, just isn't that important. I'm just about the biggest EO fan I've ever met — thus, the two goofy examples I've linked to — and I've gotta tell you that, honestly, this current situation is too much of a mess for me to want to get involved with.

Just to be clear: I do not have a dog in this fight. I haven't even read every page of the thread, but just the last four alone have made me very sad. As a favor to good 'ol Xaxie, who doesn't stop by much any more, could everyone try a deep, cleansing breath before they post again on this thread?

We're better than this. Seriously.

+++++

Now for a real problem: I just wish there was someone, anyone, here who would sell me an Orange B3. If only someone here had one for sale ...

Actually, Duke, I think the key to changing the tone of this thread is to ask some of the people posting on it not to take anymore breaths!

The more I think about it, the more it should remain the same.

Some of these posts are just wierd (ala cheesepaws). Nothing personal but your posts, especially the initial ones, are just "off". Mentioning a lottery and then returning and asking how the "lottery discussion" has been progressing is odd stuff.

People willing to pay up front, sight unseen, seems off as well when I think about it.
Paying up front for a module or something is one thing. I think the allure of those items like the Pied Piper games is that they're early D&D historic pieces or at least "what could have been in an alternate universe" type of fare. This item is something different and I can't imagine why anybody would, sight unseen, want to buy it unless they were the # 1 EO fan or they were looking at it as a rarity investment piece. The $50 tag implies that it's an investment to some extent I think. How many people will pay $50 if it's an unlimited edition print? I'm sure many people will lie and say that they will do so and then of course the reality... They will basically call the bluff and assume that it's still limited and if not they will rescind. How many people will pay up front, sight unseen, if the piece is going to be an unlimited print? 5-10 maybe? So, if the price remains at $50.00 then there's really good reason to leave it as is. This is assuming the worst case scenario (for the people that are unable to get this item) and it becomes a rarity that isn't available.
This is a fair gripe to some extent: "but aren't I part of the community?" "shouldn't this be a community effort and how could it be if I'm not involved, I post here once in awhile after all?"
On the flip side I think it will have the effect of making people check up on threads and log in more often. Then you're actually becomming more a part of this community, no?
I have been here for several years now with very few posts (I'm a good example in that regard) but I check this forum regularly because it interests me.  I looked at the thread, it was not hidden whatsoever, and I placed my concerns. Then I checked back a few times and got on the list. It wasn't some mission impossible type of deal to get on the list
I had some sympathy for people that are not on the list up until recently and now it feels like people are upset about missing out on something else and not the art.

There you go.
You think that 75 copies would make it an unlimited edition print?

WOWSERS........
