Take a look at the seller as well.

I believe this auction did not include the cardboard sleeve which is kind of the cover for Dark and Hidden Ways (Though it was meant to fit around both the book and module together.

Im kinda surprised at the price.

Have to agree with Jason here.
That price was really high for the set NOT including the Paper cover thingy.

I purchased a copy of Dark and Hidden Ways for $15 a few weeks ago.
And got Wild Things a few weeks prior for $12...
And BOTH of them were in NM condition.
That copy of DaHW looks like someone had been using it for swatting flies....
And the DSG looks pretty worn out too.
The DSG and the WSG can be bought on E-Bay for around $5 each almost any week.

Last week the same seller sold a 144 page Dieties and Demigods book that was mearily in very good condition for $66....
Lisa is getting some very high prices for the stuff she is listing.

The DSG and WSG that came with the sets are actually different than the ones readily available on the stands.  The books that came with Wild Things and  Dark and Hidden Ways have the UPC code struck out with a black line or cross.

I am just pointing thios out that the UPC codes struck out should be worth a few dollars more than the ones without. :)

A magic marker?

Here is a DaHW ending in 7 hours at $16.50

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=370225295393

$50 for a worn out DSG and a thrashed DaHW is too much, marked or not.

Besides nothing in that Listing said the DSG was original with the DaHW, and it did not mention the mark either.

I could frankestien that set together right now...... not mention the Blacked out UPC code (Or mark it myself) and only a few folks would know the difference.

I don't think any serious collector would consider these a "set" unless they were shrinkwrapped.  Whoever spent $50 on that earlier auction is a fool.

I haven't seen many of these in shrink lately....

Ouch!  Thankfully, wasn't me but perhaps an uninformed buyer rather than a fool.  I've seen that buyer's Ebay ID on a few other shrink auctions.  Anyone know who it is? :)

Well, maybe "fool" is a little harsh, but as was pointed out, a beat up DSG can be had for around $5, and the Dark and Hidden ways was not in great shape.  The buyer paid at least 2 times more than they had to.

And hence they would go for a pretty good price, maybe as high as $150-200.

I recall one auction that had both the DSG and WSG shrinked.  It was eaten up with off ebay dealing very quickly (nope, not by me).

The DSG's are very cheap and I think the buyer paid way too much; however, someone stumbling across this site will find the following valuations:

Dark & Hidden Ways (with DSG) Aug 9 04 4 $25  $45  $60  $75  $90  $100
Dark & Hidden Ways (without DSG) Aug 9 04 4 $9  $16  $21  $26  $32  $35

Now, these values are certainly much higher than I would expect and have not been updated in 5 years.  For someone just getting back into collecting and using the values as a guide without watching ebay auctions, the price paid may have seemed reasonable.  When I started collecting again, I know I was guilty of the same behavior.

And yes, I would love my own copies in shrink. :)

I would venture that this is a prime example of how chatter on the Acaeum can drive up the price of an item on Ebay.

Are you referring to this one?

The buyer hasn't stepped forward ... yet. It shows up on my account as "4***n" with a total of 194 feedback.

I contacted that seller shortly after their auction to see if they realized the value of what they had, I got kind of a snippy response back from them.  Admittedly, it was a bit of sour grapes on my part, but I can't imagine that auction would have ended under $200 had it run its course.  To me it smacked of a naive seller getting taken advantage of.

Could have asked for a slightly higher BIN, though. ;)

@Grug: *nods* Even $250+ wouldn't have been too much of a surprise.
