You join the Immortals...either an elite regiment of the Persian Army or a player-character demi-god from the Mentzer gold D&D box.

This qualifies you for your something or other pretty much cool.  I just can't remember what it is right now.  :x

Damnit, Mark, we're not supposed to say!

I'm sorry, but ... there's no way around it, really ... I'm going to have to report you.

Opening season for CFL tonight!
Good to see some football back on TV again.
Any Canadians watching the Montreal/Hamilton game?
Hamilton is looking like a high-school team.

The CFL is the only league that I ever seen that had two teams with the same name (Saskatchewan Roughriders and the Ottawa Rough Riders).

The CFL is great fun. I wish the U.S. expansion in the '90s would have worked out a bit better, though ... hey, maybe my Sacramento Gold Miners T-shirt is worth something?

Multiple men in motion ... the one-point "rouge" ... 1-yard neutral zone ... man, Canadians are good at making up fun games!  :)

Go, Lions!

Most of the CFL fans that I know here in Atlantic Canada thought that the American expansion was a bit heretical.

That said, I think there are more NFL fans in Canada than CFL fans, except for those few cities that have a team.

If I am not mistaken I think that a deal was signed in the last few months for the Buffalo Bills to play some of their 2010 games in Toronto.

EDIT: I always liked that BC Lions logo. The lion looks so....happy!

Mmmmmm....dog!  Now there's a meal!

When I worked out in Wyoming I was going along this very straight piece of road doing 100 miles an hour.  Way off in the distance I see this spec in the middle of the road.  Five seconds later I see that it's a Prairie Chicken!  Less than a half a second later I see this humongous ball of feathers in my rear view mirror!  Wow!  Free range chicken blow up REAL good!   I'll never run over an ordinary chicken again.

Seriously, when I was in China I visited a meat market and there was this dog all chopped up into big, easily recognizable pieces.  They even eat the head.  His head was just laying there looking up at me. :puker:   Definitely creepy.

Okay, now I'll never look at their helmets the same way again ...

I follow the Lions a bit just because they are (I'm pretty sure) the only Pacific Time Zone team in the league. I also like the Toronto Argonauts, though ... what a great, D&D-sounding nickname.

They are actually named after the city rowing team from the rowing craze of the late 1800's.

Every year the Canadian sports networks pumps them up as "this is their year!"

I have always been a bit of a Montreal Allouettes fan.

I have always been a bit of a Hamilton TiCats fan.  What always made me wonder is that with 8 or 9 teams why were two of them named Roughriders?
And why didn't the East coast ever have a team - someplace like Halifax?  Why doesn't Halifax have an NHL team either?

I will say that watching CFL games in the snow is always entertaining though.

Halifax does not really have a big enough market to support a major sports team, even CFL.

Now if they put it in Moncton, we are central to the Atlantic Provinces and have a population base of over 1 million people within a two hour drive. That is why we have had big concerts recently like the Rolling Stones on their last tour and are a stop this summer for the Eagles tour.

They did try and get a team back in the mid-80s though: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atlantic_Schooners

Topically enough, the largest UK supermarket Tesco has just voted against
improved welfare standards for chickens:

I believe it trades in the US under the name "Fresh & Easy"

Have you ever received chicken in the mail? I have. Tyson chicken - sealed and delivered. In the mail. In summer. That should be illegal. Seriously. Think about that.

I think I remember that it was from a merger, right? There was like a western-based league and an eastern-based league, and initially they were rivals and then they eventually merged? And, just for a bit of fun, both leagues happened to have "Rough Riders" as a team nickname.

I think it's something like that. But I'll be damned if I can remember which one of them is one word and which uses two capital Rs. :)
