Either eBay has lost their minds or there really was someone trying to access my account (why I wouldn't know, lol) and they scrambled my password.  Had to get a CS rep to generate a new temp password to get the message that there had been an attempted "spoof" of my account.

What an exciting day it's been.  2 days until iPhone 4 launch and 43 sleeps until Gen Con!

Alea iacta est - that's it then, we have our new austerity budget. 25% cuts in most government departments, public sector pay freeze, VAT up to 20%,  company tax cuts, capital gains tax up etc... Let's see if it works...  :?:

20% VAT! Wow! I thought that our sales tax of 13% was high.
Our federal government gets 7% of the tax and the province takes the other 6%. But the funding for health care comes from the provincial level of government.

The Uruguay/Mexico match today was pretty exciting.  Cant say the same for France/South Africa though.  I know the French coach must be disgusted and peeved about everything that has happened recently but to not shake the hand of the opposing team's coach after the match is pretty crappy.  Even if you dont like the guy or arent happy about something said, just shake the guy's hand and move on.  Instead he just made the whole situation that much worse.  My opinion of course.

If the U.S. doesnt make the next round, I'm rooting for Uruguay.  My money would be on Argentina but where is the fun in rooting for the favorites?  If they win, I'll have to buy me a Diego Forlan jersey.  :)

I don't know about Chicago proper per se, as far as good game shops. I would recommend Games Plus out in Mount Prospect. The guys have been running the shop for almost 30 years. But it's a little bit out of the way (it's northwest of Chicago).

I second this recommendation. I recently went down there for their spring game auction and was really impressed. I will be going back to the auction for sure. It is out of my way for a regular store (about 2 hours), but if you are near there, I totally recommend it.

Games Plus usually has a booth at Gen Con too, though I would expect the selection is better at the store.  They've been around for a long time.  I bought a lot of my original stuff from them, many years back.

Wow. We Americans (and especially those living in states with no sales tax) really need to stop complaining about taxes. I pay nothing compared to that. Of course our public services are commensurately crappy; at least I'm in a relatively decent school district...sigh.

No, we shouldn't stop complaining....or in short order we'll have taxes on the scale of Europe.  But then again with the current administration's unrealistic level of spending that's going on, we'll probably get to those rates anyhow.

Holy crap, U.S. finally manages to score a goal in the 91st minute and beat Algeria to win their group and move on to the next round.  Congratulations to England for also winning their match.

Damn....I think I developed an ulcer watching that game.

And the US emerges as the group leader!  Whew!  Now I will be cheering for Germany to win so we at least don't have to face them in the first round.  My guess is that Serbia will defeat Australia to advance as the USA opponent.  But you never know!   :?

I didn't know if I was going to have a heart attack or exploding cranium. The ulcer was pretty much a given ;)

What a wide-open game! The US really needs to be better about finishing those quality chances. But hey, they finally did and now we are through to the knockout round.

Let's see the soccer-haters call that a boring match!

Congrats to the Brits for pulling through as well.

Hiya,

and if England went football mad today (and it did), what will it be like against the traditional enemy on Sunday??

If we lose there will be riots in the streets :(

Still, bring it on Hans, bring it on!

Cheers,
Malc

Hiya,

thanks for the replies on the shops in Chicago guys.

Unfortunately, despite some horse-trading, I dont think we will make it to Games Plus.

Never mind, next time tho! :)

Cheers,
malc
