In the early '80s, the catastrophe of Reaganomics led to a huge migration from the rust belt to oil-rich places like my hometown of Houston. Lots of these kids wore Pittsburgh Steelers clothing, the rivals of the Oilers. It was even echoed in the neighborhood high schools' colors: one was columbia blue, while the adjacent high school was black & gold.

That's what I remember from this era: early D&D, & Steelers gear worn in Houston. There's a world of symbolism here, beyond sports.

Off-topic, but I give thanks to Asylum Home Entertainment.

The Asylum makes low-budget movies. I bought one of their better movies, Bram Stokers Dracula's Curse, from an Amazon seller, but it had pixellation/freezing in a certain scene. I bought a replacement copy from Amazon; it, too, had pixellation in the same location.

Repeated buffing and cleaning had no significant effect other than to shift the pixellation by a few seconds. I called The Asylum to ask if the problem was the DVD media or just my bad luck. The Asylum said it would ship me a replacement DVD.

The Asylum quickly shipped me two new replacement DVDs. Two thumbs-up for The Asylum for going beyond the call of duty.

I am off to India tomorrow for a ten-day holiday with my wife. We'll be in Jaipur for Diwali. Should be interesting. My mum is minding the kids - Yay!!!

Yes. I had better not mix that one up!!! It was rather spur of the moment thing this trip. I think it is only the second time my wife and I have been away together without the kids since the first one came along 12 years ago.

Not on a similar scale, but I'm flying to Glasgow this evening from Southampton! Funnily enough, its a 90minute flight, but to fly to Amsterdam, its only 45 minutes... Hmmm.... Choices, choices...
