BoE raises its base rate and all the usual whiney voices are out bleeting that they never knew such things could happen and why isn't getting into debt free, and oh woe is them because they never realised you could use maths to work out if you could afford a house or not. Like they are genuinely offended that someone would expect them to pay to borrow hundreds of thousands of pounds. It's not like they didn't see this happenning years ago, or last year, or just before Christmas, and they'll be genuinely wrecked and incredulous when it happens again in next month or the month after.

The level of financial literacy in the UK is staggeringly low, and I'm not talking about the complexities of calculating compound interest or assessing risk. I'm talking about really basic mathematical consepts like there being no such thing as free money. I'd put money on less than 1 in 100 'educated middle class professionals' understand inflation, what it is and where it comes from, and I'd bet more people in our so called 'working class' understand inflation better than your average doctor or architect.

When did reading and education go out of fashion?
With the invention of computer games?

Good luck with the surgery. I had double frozen shoulder last year and thought my rotator cuffs may be shot (some instances of that in my family), but alas, it was due to early signs of osteoarthritis in my shoulders, which I am now managing. Not sure if it is due to the cross-fit bender I went on in my late forties, or walking on my hands a lot when I was a teenager.

Jimmy Carter has entered hospice care. Say what you will of his policies' effect upon interest rates, his was the administration of the wizard logo & the Holmes blue book. I don't know if he & Zbigniew Brzezinski spent their time in the Oval Office hacking through the GDQ series, but if they did, they did so without benefit of proper D10s or D20s. God bless their sacrifice!

Carter's administration was the beginning of deregulation in interstate trucking and airlines. He personally did a lot of good for a lot of folks for a lot of years.

I saw the Dungeons & Dragons movie and liked it.  Unfortunately, so many people have been saying such good things about it, it raised my expectations too much.  It started off a little slow for one thing, but it seemed to pick up steam and kept me entertained until the end.  There were more than a few classic D&D monsters to see.  There were a few good fight and action scenes.  Overall, it was mostly fun fantasy until the final battle with the end boss. There is one bonus scene after the initial run of credits.  I recommend it, but don't go with high expectations and you'll enjoy it more.  I saw the 1:30PM viewing today.  There were only two or three other people in the theater with me.  Admission was $10.25.

I had heard that AMC theaters were giving away free promo posters and maps, but when I inquired at the manager's desk, they informed me that their theater didn't get any promo posters or maps.  Bummer.    I asked if there were any other promotional or movie related items they could give me, and the manager said to stop by the desk on my way out.  I was quite surprised when they gave me an original promo poster for the movie that they were no longer using.  As you can see in the photo below, it's quite large (that's a 12 inch ruler on the left).  I'm not sure what I'm going to do with it, but I'm glad I got something.
