I was hoping I'd get a bargain, given I don't think the seller quite knew what he had.
But alas, there were obviously a few bidders who knew what they were worth...

Is it my imagination or are those winning bids a bit light? I seem to remember those going for more.

I know this was discussed somewhere, but I can't seem to find it.  Isn't the black box the 1st printing?  Then woodgrain, and finally the white box?

Yes, the black box is the 1st printing, but it was a Guidon Game publication, not TSR.  The woodgrain and white boxed sets were TSR.  The 1st and 2nd TSR printings were brown boxes.  The 3rd TSR printing was the white box.
There could have been additional printings too.

I think this is the thread you were looking for:

I have a Guidon version not in a black box... I believe i already raised this point but i can't remember both where and the answers i got...
Anyway, my box is woodgrainish... Not exactly the woodgrain of the d&d boxes... No labels on it... Not divided in top/bottom parts but a whole with the top tied on one side to the rest of the box and the opening mechanism on one of the sides... Difficult to explain (i would have problems even in my mother tongue!)...
I have two options for this version:
1. Guidon had shortage of boxes and used others than the black ones
2. The owner damaged the orignal box and put his tractics in a complementary box

If you want i can post some pics!

Your options are plausible.  Maybe someone else can vouch for another printing.

Can you resurrect the original thread provided and post the pics there?

I think this is the other thread you were referring to:

Tractics questions

I'll throw this out there.  I think its a fake:

The pitting on the ribbon that turns into the top of the T and on the top of the R seems very course and the back buckle isn't correct.  Overall the pictures make it seem kinda course like when you lose some of the quality by making a copy.  Outside edges are shiny which doesn't match mine.

The other stuff the seller has listed looks legit but this one doesn't sit right with me.

I say this and thought it was Dragon magazine due to the font!

Yes, they are good, and they are collectible.  Only six issues before they were forced to stop publishing it.

This thread will shed some light on the magazine:

TSR is Back!

You can still purchase them here too, but there could be limited quantities remaining:

Magazines - Solarian

I've only read the first one, but it was like stepping back to the good old days. I'd say they're well worth buying.

This week I've been mostly eating . . . The white ones with the little red flecks in them.
