Interesting. I found (and purchased) a red leather hardbound book containing of all the 1e Ravenloft GRIM HARVEST modules. The guy who had it bound included all the original maps in these interesting sleeve pouches that were placed within the endpapers. It was from a guy in Poland.

Sounds interesting.
Any chance of some images?

Maybe running some POD modules or early fanzines (ie Strategic Review) into hard cover books is a quick earner for people not bothered about the vintage authenticity of the item for a collection, but just to have the item itself

A 300 page hardback colour book is only $21 to print, no wonder this seems to be a new thing now

Cheap enough to do.
There is zero value in the published material, and zero IP being infringed. WotC has abandoned the IP, and so far as I can find, no-one has ever been prosecuted for republishing TSR product anywhere in the world, and no-one has ever been prosecuted for making or distributing TSR products in digital form either.
They are all available for free, so if you are willing to put in a good amount of time putting together a quality product, that is something you have every right to charge for, and there will always be buyers out there for things like this.
The collectors of original OOP products may not like the way the information age impacts on people's access to historic documents, and may not like WoTC's attitude towards protecting the original documents they are collecting, but an original mint condition T1-4 will always be a premium product, and a unique manuscript or signed personal item will always hold their value and preeminence in the collecting world.
I see this as a divergence, and I see no impact on the value of original OOP products by the current free access to PDFs and move towards PoD.
I do however see confusion on message boards and the same questions over 'legitimacy', and Acaeum is the only source of real information about what is original genuine published documents, and what is a rehashed, re-imagined, what-shoulda-been, homebrew PoD product.
For me, at the moment the ROI just doesn't justify the work.

I wonder how much a hard cover book of all 31 Imagine magazines might fetch?

Incredibly rare Daystar West Pharaoh, but the BIN is up there, even beyond the recent Facebook sale.

Still, if someone is really wanting this, they are super hard to find, and it appears to be in fairly decent condition.

It would seem like for £20 or so you could find out.
The selling point really is the presentation of the over all package, the editing, the cleanliness of the imaging which would be had given the state of the freely available PDF scans, the additional graphic input that would be needed, and the selection of what you would choose to present full page spread and how that is implemented in a perfect bound book.
I think anyone could assemble the PDFs into a giant PDF (select all/combine PDF) and whisk it off to Mr. PoD via WeTransfer, and maybe sell the first copy and turn a quick £50 profit in the first instance, but the question really is, is it worth the time and effort for £50, and is it worth someone adding overt profiteering and exploitation of another's works to their persona?
In a time of financial crisis, and with a long term strategy towards hitting a target market of buyers, maybe the answer is yes. But in a time of financial crisis everyone allocates their disposable income differently, and it could be a project that nets £10 a fortnight as opposed to £50 a week. And from an ethical perspective, that is something each of us square up with our children and our maker.

To put a figure on it, I'd take a blind stab at £70.

Most of the cost would be front loaded Ian.  A persons time being the biggest.  However, if someone does make the effort to do a quality 'mashup' and can clear 40 or 50 bucks a pop (purely a guess), then creating a run of 50 books might be worthwhile. The individual would still have the 'master' file so if the lot flies off the eBay shelf they can do subsequent offerings.  Hell you could label the printings inside the cover if you wanted to go overboard.  Spending that much time and money/risk is not for everyone which is probably why they are currently a rare commodity.  I have issues with it morally but I am seeing this happen with kids college books.  A professor cobbles his class book together by pulling in works/sections from different authors and sells it as a CompSci 232 required material item. For $120 bucks no less.

I was thinking if you just combined the PDFs as is and shipped the PDF to the Print-on-demand company of your choice, you may clear £50 on a one off sale.
If you put the effort in and polished the product, you may be able to secure a constant profit over time, but that's a lot of work and effort to produce a quality product from the current crop of downloadable PDFs, and is a bigger ethical leap for someone to make profiting from someone else's labour (one off vs. ongoing profit vs. contributing towards the community vs. abandonment of the IP and lapsed IPs). I can understand how one can square away those things with their own conscience, but taking the step takes something away from them at one level, and maybe not so much if someone did it once to see what would happen. Who knows? It'll happen sooner or later as IPs right across the board have been abandoned, and the PDFs are free to anyone who has access to the internet and a cursory knowledge of Google. It is the way the Information Age is moving, and like music and film, and anything else that can be digitized, the publishers can either abandon their rights and burry their heads in the sand, or move with the times, plan and implement change. Sadly, I suspect they have chosen the former from everything I can see at the moment.

Here you go, seller has a few of these.
I can see the attraction as it goes, particularly for short run magazines for example.

You can never have too much of something you didn't need in the first place.

From WoTC point of view, this sort of thing can only pull more potential customers towards their current own product range.
Spending money defending IP is both counter productive and costly, with zero net benefit.
So long as it's D&D that is being marketed its more eyes and more brand awareness on their brand.
This product looks pretty naff though, particularly when they show you what it looks like inside.
This is why I draw a distinction between just sending PDFs to Mr PoD and deciding to put the time and effort into producing an item of quality.

Never seen one. Never read it. For those who have, is there really much difference between it and I3?

This looks VERY similar to a Ravenloft Grim Harvest compilation hardback I got from a guy in Poland. It was more of a curiosity purchase than anything else, and was pretty crap quality. It was apparently printed from PDF, but the DPI was really bad, quite blurry.

Looks like he's still selling these....

A full set of Australian modules just sold.
I was hoping I'd get a bargain, given I don't think the seller quite knew what he had.
But alas, there were obviously a few bidders who knew what they were worth...
