So the legit L3s are bound like the one in that auction?
ie no separate cardboard cover and a blank back?

I think someone was looking for these?

That could've been me.

Since I posted a thread about the mini 1e books, I've obtained The Greyhawk, L&L, MotP, UA and WSG mini versions, one of them from the same seller.

He has many of the books but the prices he's asking, combined with the condition of most of them gives me slight pause.

That’s fair enough, glad I remember someone was looking though

If the PDFs are downloaded from the internet and sent to a PoD publisher to create hardcopies, that is more akin to shoplifting from your FLGS and then fencing the selling your stolen goods on Craigslist.

I remember I bought pdfs  from wotc way back when.  I think they called them ESDs at the time.  I believe they were something like $1.29 apiece and I literally bought hundreds of them.  I wish I could go back in time and slap the $hit out of my younger self.  Ill have to find the paperwork and post it.  I had the release schedules, when they were acquired and when they were going to be scanned, the whole nine yards.   PDT_Armataz_01_05

Ha I found an old file... Will keep looking...

I am not into minis but i'd say that this is interesting... Old 1E boxes... Many minis (there are in average 2 minis per slot in each box...) ...and a good nr of followers and bidders:

This is just a copy right? not the real deal I assume. Hard to say from the listing though I have 0 expertise in stuff this valuable tbh having never owned a copy.

The colour is right and it looks genuine in the photos.
This would fall into the folderless first edition version of PotVQ - It is believed that Wee Warriors sold copies without the black folders when they ran out of black folders, but before they sold the rights to Lou Zocchi to print and sell ziplock copies with his own version of the cover in yellow.
It looks to be in pretty good condition, but over the years the constant reprints have probably really hammered the value of these sorts of products, and let's be fair here... This is effectively a defective first print PotVQ and should be valued accordingly.
I'd still expect it to go for $200 or more.

Thanks. I'd probably stump up 200 to have something that early. Anything i should do before bidding that high - pretty wary of this kind of stuff after the kerfuffle with James Wards stuff recently.

To put this into context, back in 2006 before this version was categorised as a folderless first print, I paid around $695 for a copy just like it, but with none of the gameplay scribbles, from a very reputable source. I sold it back into the community in around 2008-ish for about $500 I think, and I was happy to have only lost $200. In those days there were no reprints and no PDFs flying around the internet, so products like this were a rarity.

These days anyone can download, print and read Palace of the Vampire Queen with a simple Google search. So whilst I think it'll go higher than $200, I don't think it's worth more than $200, and I don't see products that are heavily circulated in PDF form maintaining their value over time, the way the rare items in collections do. The reason Rahasia and Pharoah hold their values I think is partly due to the absence of that original published form being available in PDF. So if you want to see what the pre-TSR product looked like, you gotta buy an original. I'm sure that will change sooner or later. It's only a matter of time.

I don't think PDFs of the OOP products are lowering the value of collectables directly, but I do thing the existence of PDFs is reducing number of collectors, and therefor lowering the volume of bidders and money being spent in the collectables space.

Nice get (for me) never had a chance to look at it as my silver box is still sealed. Very excited!

For those who are interested. The seller seems to have flaked and refunded me after I asked for the item. Claim they sent it but not receipt as dont have it. But i've not had many royal mail delays (at least not 2 week ones domestically). Dodgy stuff. oh well.

I will give them a very bad review - and i suppose thats all i can do.

What likely happened is that someone messaged him and offered him a lot more money.   :(

Geeze…. Perhaps their name needs to be added to the list of shady dealers?

I'd be more interested in knowing if the supposed gazumper (is that a peculiarly British term?) picked up on the cheap sale while browsing Acaeum (in which case if they exist they may well be one of us!?), of if the person were some watcher on eBay that missed the final hour sniping opportunity and just tried his hand.

The point at which you put the seller on the Shady Dealer thread is when they offer the exact same item for sale in six months time, or someone suspiciously close to them geographically sells the exact same thing but with a better description and a better idea of price.
