That's right around where it's usually at. The last on on eBay had one bid and went for $5K.

But the last one was Larry Elmore's personal copy signed by all of the artists. The one before that that sold for $5k at NTRPG Con was Diesel's personal copy that was also signed by the artists. So this one does seem a tad optimistic. But with the way prices have been going, and all of the new money flowing into our hobby, who knows?

Wanted to thank you guys for this discussion - helped me a lot. I've been looking at several modules "in shrink", and they looked "too good to be true" to me. The modules did look to be in good shape, and the price wasn't wild, but I was confused as to how to value/treat the shrink-wrap factor. So this makes a lot of sense to me - thanks again! - bc72

In the late 90's I did similar for the biggest D&D seller in Melbourne, Australia (while was at Uni). We had almost the idential process. What I would say though, is even after shrink wrapping hundreds of different items (and my boss thousands) I dont think it'd pass muster/sight versus the eyes of people here. We never wrapped or received shrink wrapped product for A4 sized roleplaying books though (to my memory).

With great respect to Jim. Does anyone think this holds significant collectible value? I suppose if the comments/notes are not found elsewhere its a unique treasure - even if a copy.

I'm torn, because greatly want to bid for that cute front page - but also recognise could be a bit of a black-hole purchase.

Given the size of the document in the photos, the sellers omission of a page count, and the DMG being dramatically larger than any of the other books that were published by TSR, I'd suggest this document is maybe just the introduction to the DMG and the rest of the document is missing, or maybe just a chapter that Jim was asked to review/comment upon.

Certainly I'd expect a DMG pre-pub manuscript copy to have been something larger than half a dozen pages, and I'd have expected the seller to have been able to photograph at least one page of documentable product.

Maybe this is the preamble to the DMG and copies were sent to all staff just in case their name appeared in it?

Given that its a copy, and without a copy of the document that is meant to come with it being in the photos or the description, I'm surprised anyone is going to drop more that $50 on this.

What is it that I'm missing here?

Oh I'm sure the products are legit. There is no question about that. I just question why half a dozen pages is deemed to be a DMG manuscript, and why anyone would throw $200 at the first six pages, when the odds are they are not getting the rest of the manuscript.

I thought this might slip under the radar because it looked a bit beat-up but it got good enough attention (more than my bid anyway!). In particular, note the MM Errata sheet (pic 3). You don't see these that often.

I'm sure it can be changed easily, but I missed that and I'm wondering how many others are not seeing that. The seller really needs to be upfront and transparent about what they are selling. That really is misleading.

The seller wants over $51 USD to ship.... That is a crazy amount for such a small item. Are the costs really that much from the UK because it really is a big turn off for me participating in auctions from overseas.

You could see if anyone here could help, if that’s an option for you? The shipping of $51 is ridiculously heavy
