Dungeons and Dragons owner Hasbro buys up D&D Beyond | Engadget
"Wizards of the Coast owner Hasbro is buying D&D Beyond, one of the most popular digital toolsets for playing Dungeons and Dragons. In a press release spotted by Gizmodo, the publisher said on Wednesday it had agreed to pay $146.3 million to acquire the platform from current owner Fandom."

I suppose this is important, though I'm not sure why. Is a 'toolkit' like the crayon for coloring in your dice?

It's a pretty big deal, IMO. WotC is beginning another edition change, but they appear to be trying to make it less contentious and audience dividing than basically every past edition change. One of their objectives was to get into the digital space, and there was worry among DnD Beyond users, who had invested in material on that platform, that WotC could set up a competitor to DnD Beyond or end the Beyond license at some point altogether. Next big question, on the digital front, will be whether WotC develops or acquires a VTT platform.

Why would you buy a cassette, and then have to go an buy an old beat up car with a cassette player in it and roleplay in your car parked on the drive or in some layby in the woods?
Or do you buy an old hi-fi systems? Is the idea that you buy this guy's cassettes, and his t-shirts and all the paraphernalia you need, and recreate the original gaming table experience? I'm of the generation that bought and played with the original Basic and Expert books, and I don't have access to a cassette player. So is his target audience the retirees of the world, or the gen-Zers who want to get one over on their older millennial players with their 5e and their old fuddy-duddy thinking? Still, gotta give it to the guy for going all in on his adventure.

This week I've been mostly eating . . . The white ones with the little red flecks in them.

In this day and age, a VTT platform is becoming simply another part of playing the game. I don't think the table top experience will ever go away, but the character sheet has been modernized by D&D Beyond and other online platforms. Instead of paper, most players use ipads or phones for their sheets. I personally really like digital character sheets, they take most of the math out of the game which allows more efficient combat and skill check resolution.

All that to say I would be extremely surprised if WotC don't already have a roadmap to either developing a VTT in-house or purchasing one of the other major ones. I'd be personally overjoyed if they purchased and improved roll20.

That's awesome, glad you're supporting a new artist!

I was listening to that and the two earlier ones, while I was looking around on him.

Being real honest, I read your comment and just locked up for all this time. How can I talk about today's music scene and not just type for days?

The item/performer on topic: I was thinking more of a visual artist and he's hitting this subject because of timeliness. I'm figuring an outsider to gaming, so it could be very interesting (to me) to have an artist look at and give a representation of what he feels is notable about gaming. Or not even that, just something about it. Or it represents something else.
Regardless of what he comes with. I've been in this for 40+ years, it would be impossible for me to have his perspective.

I know you can tell I was more of a Night Flight kid than mtv, lol

So true, not even counting the chicken scratch and erasing holes into the paper that I always ended up doing.

Correct, tho not a toughie based on the products.

The venue for the ad tilted the product mix, if that helps. :)
