Maybe someone could reach out to the guys that founded GW and see if they know which came first, and the tale behind the reprint?
I don't think I've ever seen a NM copy of that particular book. If there has been one, or is one in a collection, maybe someone could share a photo.
IIRC, the copy I had was a black cover (as opposed to dark blue) with a plain back cover with nothing printed on it at all.
Has there been a direct side by side comparison between the two editions?

This week I've been mostly eating . . . The white ones with the little red flecks in them.

I have not seen one of these in a really long time.  Any thoughts on the price?

I haven’t seen a GW Basic book in NM condition. Would love to find one. Decent copies go for circa £200 IIRC. I’m looking for a good copy. This one is too beat up for me.

The funny thing is, in my experience with the people I knew, back in the day we all had US copies. I never knew the UK GW edition existed until I started reading Acaeum.
In the same vein, there were a lot of softcover MMs on games tables, but most of the PHs were hardcover. Just my recollections from a youth spend playing way too much D&D this side of the pond. I wonder if this plays out in the frequency with in which softcover MMs and softcover PHs come up for sale?

seems interesting. Seller claims typed letter of provenance can be typed. Not worth much (??) but fits the bill for this thread I'd say.

EDIT: Oh the seller has heaps of other things from what seems the estate sale.

He's got a Battletech Behemoth mini. That should go for a lot.

Any guesses on how high that manuscript goes for?

Already at $10,000.

Personally I would love to see a version with markup by Gary.

I really do not understand the bidding strategy of coming right out the gates with big bids like this.  What is the thinking here?

If someone wakes up the old time D&D'er who handles purchases at the Library of Congress... Quite high I am figuring...

Me neither... Wouldn't you want to snipe it at the end?  Then again, this is a different echelon of buyers we are talking about here.

Could be that these won't seem that big compared to the final price. Potential here for the highest sold D&D item?

There is a certain logic that a large upfront bid will scare off smaller bidders.  Seen it used at housing auctions.  Most of the time just drives up the price, benefiting the seller.

I believe the highest recorded auction price for a D&D item was for a 1st Printing woodie that sold for $22,100.

There was another 1st printing woodie that sold for $20,100.

The next highest sale price was for a Jade Hare w/ cover for $18,600.

This one-of-a-kind manuscript will likely exceed these prices.  It should be unique.  The only one that exists.
