That's a really fun piece!

I missed the whole discussion on the value of prints, but it really does underscore the need to carefully define what's we're expecting.

There's a huge (and justified) difference in cost depending on whether you're looking at a laborious printmaking process or a "poster print" reproduction, and of course all the various things in-between.

Hi folks.  I emailed Erol at the beginning of the month (6 March), and he said that he wouldn't be available to begin to work on the project until June when his freelance time would free up again.  Therefore, given a number of my own March deadlines to juggle, I didn't worry about pinging him further (because we had a number of issues to sort through) until getting PaulKM's message tonight that things had apparently heated up in the thread (which I'm now also caught up on).

My assumption after our initial email exchange with Erol was that we had already set the expectation that the design work won't begin in earnest until June, and that there wouldn't be a lot to talk about until then.  Since I've been mostly-incommunicado for a few weeks, the blame for that assumption being wrong lies squarely on my shoulders.  If this three-week silence has concerned any of you, I apologize, and I certainly don't want you to think that we're ignoring Erol or not listening to the concerns that you've been raising.  

I emailed Erol again this evening (30 March) and expect that we'll continue to email and/or discuss the project over the phone for some time before we make any substantive progress:  we have many questions for him (several raised by the committee members, as well as inspired by comments in this thread), and many of his responses will dictate how the commission proceeds in terms of timing, finances, presentation format, art-design production, printing, etc.

Thanks for listening, and for your patience as we work through this:  proposing and managing a fine-art commission is something new for all of us, so we're working through the process as we go, and we'll obviously run into some kinks which your feedback will continue to help us improve upon.

Along those lines, what would be the best way for you to hear from the EO committee:  for us to provide status updates once/twice a month, to request an Acaeum sub-web for the project to allow better threading and visibility for discussion topics, etc.?  Our goal is transparency, so suggestions on what we can do to help that process along are definitely appreciated!

BTW EO has replied back to us on the project. Very excited about this, as it really looks like it's going to happen.   As has been said EO won't even start working on this before June, which gives up plenty of time to get all the little details worked out and we can hit the ground running when EO has the time. Any suggestions or ideas before then are welcome as we finalize all the nuts and bolts of the project.

While I'm not in the market for a piece of art, I'd just like to say that if a deal should be finalized, I'd suggest it be an old-fashioned monochrome color piece like the cover of module C1. I always felt Erol's monochrome pieces turned out to be the best. Yeah, they didn't begin that way, but there ya go.

You should check out some of the Dungeon Crawl Classics cover art done by Otus. DCC#3 and #4 are fantastic.

Perhaps a collector theme like a bunch of EO monsters playing a game with an old woodgrain boxset playing POVQ with Gary himself as the DM.
