Maybe the reflections off the plastic wrapper are making it look shiny. It's still an odd-looking color, so I wonder if it isn't a set of light-brown dice in a photo where the color is distorted. Or maybe the dice are covered in mold, & are an example of what is goes on under the shrinkwrap.

Why not? Super reputable seller with an absolutely unique item.
The way prices are going I wouldn't be at all surprised to see this go at full price or close to it. There are super collectors out there with exceptionally deep pockets so it's probably just a matter of time for this to leave its current home.

harami2000 is a member of the Acaeum, and used to frequent here often, but hasn't in quite a while.  I doubt he would be sell a counterfeit item and he does have the provenance to back it up.  It might be overpriced when compared to similar items, but he clearly isn't interested in selling it, unless he gets an offer that he considers acceptable.

You are right to be sceptical when going in blind, but this is where communities like this really have an advantage, because he's one of us.

The guy is/was one of the most respected of the old guard here. More of a scholar than a collector to my mind, but one of means and one of the big bidders on the more interesting of the manuscripts I used to buy. As I recall he pushed my big up on more than a few occasions, and I probably did the same to him. I have no doubt that this is legitimate. If it came from one of Paul Stormberg's auctions it will already have been authenticated and have a signed certificate from the originating collection. And if I were selling something with authenticating documentation, I wouldn't be photographing it and displaying certificates on an auction anyways.

I won't speculate on its source because I don't know, but of what I do know of the man, he is honest, intelligent, informed and this is exactly the type of thing I would expect to be sitting in his collection. I can't wait to see what else he puts up for sale. Sadly I suspect most of it to be well out of my price range as I no longer have the means I once had to purchase such things. But it's fun to remember when I did.

If this book is worth $14,000 what is my 1st print Monster Manual fresh out of the first box at TSR, that is signed by Gary Gygax (with a dedication as well) to Tim Kask worth? It is also signed by Dave Trampier (who never signed anything) and Tom Wham and Dave Sutherland.

The problem when you get to such unique items is that price is purely arbitrary, as is insurance value. It is impossible to replace and value is subjecting and can only be assessed in comparison to such a small pool of other documented sales.

If you estimate it’s value at say $25K and an insurance adjuster asked you to prove it, where does that leave you? At the end of the day it is worth the higher of two values... how much it is worth to you at the point at which you want to sell it, and how much someone is willing to offer you for it. It certainly would be an interesting sale to watch.
