I’d say it worth $40 for the box and the aggregate value of the contents, and the seller is trying for the extra $2K because he’s seen other eBay listings and thinks he’ll find a mug out there. Or am I wrong about just how valuable these slip sleeves are in that condition?
Would anyone here drop $1K on that let let along $2.5K?

Agree. The problem is, if you can pull this kind of thing off now - you (we) should probably be selling our collections in scam-like manner such as this.

However, I want to collect - not take profits. So I hope it doesnt sell - because if it does I'm going to dump everything in a similar fashion.

A 10th ann slip cover went for $600 or $800 dollars at the last gen con auction I was at. That was 5-6 years ago, poor memory, it may have been longer than that.

This reminds me of the copies of some of the fanzines that used to be available on eBay a few years back. Is it legitimate to sell 20+ year old photocopies on eBay? The majority of tourneys and fanzines were just photocopies from the original pasteups, and if they needed to 'print' new copies for people wanting back issues, or additional sessions at a convention, they'd just nip to the local Kinkos or hotel lobby and run off a few copies, maybe even run of a slew of them to give out to the players for keepsake. Then you had the likes of Lou Zocchi photocopying Tegel and Palace of the Vampire Queen and who knows what else and selling those at conventions 'under license', all of which are considered by most of the collecting community to be in some way legitimate vintage collectable photocopies. So is there really any difference between this and anything else people sell on eBay? Can you really make a valid distinction between something that is slightly approved of by someone 'apparently', something that was clearly probably approved of in the vase of Lou, and something that in all likelihood was not approved of in the case of Bio One? And even if you did make such a distinction, surely it then just falls into the category of vintage D&D bootlegs, the same way bootleg pressed vinyl is collected by some who follow recording artists.

And then of course, anyone who can get a hold of a 20 year old Xerox from a garage sale can presumably knock of 'fake' reproductions of vintage photocopies, and would they really be any less distinguishable or collectable?

I have a slew of tourneys that were played an out of the way cons, some with players notes on, all clearly photocopied at one time or another. Add to that a whole raft of issues of MFUK's Comnet which is ridiculously rare for people who collect Battletech (I don't imagine there are many), but again, this was a zine that was just pumped out on photocopiers in a home office in Wales I believe, and it wasn't until issue 22 or 24 where they started saddle stapling them, before that it was corner stapled, and even then they only saddle staples 10 issues before they decided it was too much like hard work and went back to corner staples. Not to mention all the other products MFUK published loose leaf photocopy.

In most of these cases, what people are buying is actually the ability to read the content, and with these sorts of things, that value is low, and will vanish for most people when they realise they can download a PDF for free. I'm making the assumption Bio One is available online via Google, I haven't looked, but everything else seems to be these days.

That was a pain to search for, since Ebay is finicky about apostrophes & many sellers omit them. (Now I've added an Ebay saved-search for "people's computer company," & have to worry about the apostrophe problem all over again.)

But is Arneson's Index worth all that much? Rare yes, but $50-$100 rare. I can't see more than 600-700 total for the items in this auction if sold individually.
