Thanks for looking into it. It appears he has the interest of some serious bidders now - currently up to $2275! Too rich for my blood but I will be watching this one when the auction ends.

Story checks out ok.

. . . . .

"Wow this is unreal and let me say it is a true honor sir.

Unfortunately the items that I am selling and continue to do so are not my own. My uncle who was the owner of all of these items was a collector and player of D&D from the mid 1970s up until the late 2000s. Steven “Big Steve” Wallner. He told me he was a very young man when he met you at gen con in 1982-3 when he got these books. However he unfortunately passed away a few years ago and my aunt no longer wants the items so I am helping her sell them to honor his memory.

He also taught me how to play D&D as a young child and I even played these very adventures as a young boy when he would talk about you, Gary, Dave and Brian like heroes or legends, of the stories you all wrote. This is something that brought me very close to him and I will remember for the rest of my life.

Thank you so much sir for all you have done for me and many others and I hope to stay in contact."

Any thoughts on this final sale price? I was watching this one this morning as a matter of curiosity and would love to learn more about who is throwing this kind of weight around.

The pictures aren't working 100%.  Not sure why.

What would this box be valued at you think? Are they getting more rare?

They are desired more, and by a wider group of people.

They are not really getting more rare, but the demand is increasing vs. the number available, thus the increase in sale prices.  There are probably more showing up in the marketplace now than we have seen for a long time.  Good old supply and demand kicking in.

It's probably worth about $2,500 to $4,000, at the most optimistic sales prices.  Since it's being sold in a lot, probably towards the lower end, unless someone is really looking to pick up most of these items.  They are not all in the condition described either, especially the box sets that are open.  Hard to tell with most items what the condition is, since there aren't a lot of photos showing the condition.

Seller should have just listed at a lower starting price, like $1,000, and let market winds lead to the final price.

I don't know why some people don't do little research on pricing beforehand, or trust that they will get the prevailing prices for their items.

We'll see what happens.

$2,500 - $4,000?

You are being generous...  :D

Maybe $2,000-$2,500

I'm sure he's over valuating his magazines in the "shrink"  :D

I don't disagree with your estimate, but these are interesting times.  :)

It's a moot point until the seller realizes that it's way overvalued, or enough people let them know that it's overvalued.

I dunno, but rumors float around about what's behind it: Is Wayfair Trafficking Children Via Overpriced Items?

The following seller on eBay has quite a few unusual items for sale, enough of them to wonder whose collection this was/is that the seller is listing.  Does anyone have information on whose collection this might be?  Perhaps it was from a gaming store.

eBay listings

The seller is not doing a great job of describing/listing the items, but that hasn't appeared to have hurt the sales prices a lot yet.

I'd like to know the history of that Alma Mater hand stamp. For a convention game, maybe? &nd it's not really rare, but I don't see Metagaming's Security Station for sale often.
