It's grim, takes itself far too seriously and is devoid of even a scrap of humor.  They should have just made a fourth Batman movie and saved the trouble.  They even filmed it in that sepia toned almost black and white to emphasize how super serious and unfunny it is.  Give me a break.

It's also choppy.  It jumps from un-finished scene to un-finished scene.   Superman just walks around grim faced and unsmiling and says 5 words throughout the whole movie.  Lois Lane is boring and looks like she's thirty years older than Clark.  Superman's krypton dad has far too much screen time, probably because he's Russell Crowe, and Crowe doesn't do bit parts.  When I picture Superman's dad, I do NOT picture scruffy unshaven homeless looking Russell Crowe.  Krypton is a highly advanced civilization and can certainly manufacture RAZOR BLADES.

I agree 100 percent with the poster who mentioned Superman lets about 500 innocent bystanders die throughout the flick, which incidentally includes his own earth dad, which he allows for an unbelievably stupid reason that also happens to be the premise of the first half of the movie.  Then he gets upset about offing one homicidal maniac intent on murder.  

When I left I felt like I had just watched a crappy alien invasion movie.  Like Independence Day without any talented acting or jokes.

Well, we manufacture razor blades also, and I have a beard, so....maybe Jor-El just like rocking that shaggy mane???  And the Russell Crowe/intro scenes on Krypton were just great. My wife, who was zero sf cred, told me afterward she'd watch an entire movie just based on the Krypton they showed in the movie.  And they managed to stay pretty much within comic book canon, which suprised me, while making an entertaining Krypton origin story.

Sorry I lost you at the Lois Lane/Amy Adams quip....she's the only Lois Lane besides Teri Hatcher that is smoking hot.

Spiderman is supposed to be funny.   I've never understood why Superman is thought of as "funny". His entire origin is one huge downer (the dude's entire PLANET was destroyed, he's an orphan, and of all things he has to grow up in KANSAS).  Don't mind him being pretty serious most of the movie, and I didn't need to see the "hilarity" of what had passed for humor in the first few Superman flicks.

Jason, there isn't really any anti-American bullshit in this one.  At the end, Superman reassures a general that he should trust him because he's an American and grew up in Kansas so they should stop surveilling him with satellites (a dig at Obama?); he even goes inside a church and has a conversation with a priest who (miracle of miracle) doesn't try to molest or murder him (sarcasm).  

As for the not saving innocents, every comics fan sometime in his life should read the classic (and over the top brutally honest) Miracleman #15 where he has the final battle with Kid Miracleman.  Not for the squeamish, but does make the point that when you are fighting a homicidal maniac with the power of a god, you've got to take him out with whatever means necessary, and some eggs are going to get broken to cook that omelet. That, and people seem to be missing that Superman's job was to take out the World Killer in the Indian Ocean....it wasn't like he was on vacation down there while Metropolis was being destroyed.

Yes all is safe !!  Like Frank said we live up in the Hills, the north that never floods.  Our office however is downtown where the worst flooding is, I guess we are taking a few days off  :D

We accept things the way they are, especially the federal government - its gun-control laws that keep us safe, the welfare that feeds us, & above all its entirely reasonable system of taxation. Some of you like to write adventures and getting quality art is usually difficult or expensive.  However, I ran across this post on Dragonsfoot which may interest some of you.

Larry Elmore has graciously allowed me to upload 178 images from his Character Clip Art and Color Customizing Studio (2002) to my FreeDnDArt collection of Public Domain art. These Larry Elmore images are not in the Public Domain, but there is a very generous license to use them. They can be used for just about anything- web pages, publications, software, games, etc.
