That's where I was going with this.  :D

I do seem to recall seeing something like these in PDF years ago.

Wasn't it some html file or something that had all the 2e reference books in a single file.  Dead giveaway is no page numbering.  Looks like seller trying to pull a fast one over the uninitiated.

I believe your right SKA. This looks like a print-off of the ebook from the Core Rules 2.0 cd-roms. I don't know for sure because I gave my copy of core rules to a friend years ago, but I'm positive the "Books" were in HTML format and not PDF.

Doing a bit of look-see into the CD, it seems they were in RTF format with hyperlinks. If anyone has access to the CD and can confirm, please do. I'm attempting to ping the folks over on Dragonsfoot, as some there seem to have the CD. Maybe someone can get a screen shot or two.

All in all, whenever these printouts were made, they have become yucky since then. I'd pass even if they were pre-pro copies.

Doh! RTF is correct. Not HTML

In the description for the second print woodie, Collectors Trove says 3300 were printed, but the entry on Acaeum says 1000 were printed. Who is right?

In Dragon #22, Gygax put it like this: "1,000 boxed sets, hand assembled and labeled, took eleventh months to sell, another 1,000 of the same took only five or six months to sell (and Tactical Studies Rules was thrilled). Finally a third printing of 2,000 sold in five months. So, from January 1974 to December 1975, only 4,000 sets of the original game were in circulation."

This is basically right, as far as I know. The fourth printing had already been executed in December 1975, so there were perhaps a few unaccounted for here on the tail end, but those were white boxes, not woodgrains. It also doesn't count copies that the printer kept for the third printing in lieu of payment. But the evidence I've seen anyway puts the second print at 1,000.

Howdy All,

Yeah, that is my bad.

At one point the print run of woodgrain printings after the 1st print was 3,000 (true) and that got conflated in years past to 3,000 and then 3,300 for the 2nd print alone with 300 overprints being ascribed to it. IIRC.

But Jon is correct and provides a good reference. I was incorrect, I typed that on the fly with the old data point stuck in my head.

Beforehand, no offense intended to the seller.
Looking at the item here below, don't you find that these are photocopies?

They might be vintage, but most definitely photocopies.

The seller should clearly know this, as they have done enough research to know the item, and have similar legitimate items for sale.

I think the seller is being intentionally misleading and trying to lure someone into buying vintage photocopies for a lot of money.

If the seller is offended, then they know what they are doing and are just trying to cover it up.

If someone wanted a good, legitimate copy of this that they could print out, I would simply get it here:

I reached out to the seller to let them know that this was a photocopy and not an original.  I suggested they put that in the description so as not to mislead potential buyers.  That was two days ago.  So far, no additions to their listing.

Yeah, I'd say they were trying to scam unknowing buyers.
