So what items from your collection are considered essentials for the zombie apocalypse? :)

I think a lot of members are rolling to Texas...  ;-)

Unfortunately, I'm heading not to a con, but to the dentist for a root canal.  Fun times.

I just happened to notice (while recovering from the con and weeping into my breakfast cereal as I look at the giant mountain of Easley art prints I have to ship) that today is my 10 year anniversary of signing up for The Acaeum.  It has been an interesting decade.  I was invited to join the Acaeum a few months earlier but never got around to signing up, and once I did sign up it was another year or so before I started posting regularly.  I am very, very happy I found this community, it is not exaggerating at all that what Foul started here really changed my life at a time when there were a LOT of changes going on (I had turned 40, had just found out my 16 year old daughter was pregnant, and was in the process of building a new house and discussing with my wife quitting my job of 13 years and working from home). Logging onto the Acaeum and meeting folks with such interesting names as Beasterbrook, Grodog, Plaag, Dbartman, Harami and others who were here before me gave me something to distract myself from the real world craziness going on at the time!

I have met dozens of Acaeum members face to face and I consider some of them my best friends.  It has been possible through this forum to find items I would have never located on my own, and played in many rpg sessions that let to tons of laughs and excitement.  Through involvement in this forum I was finally convinced to go to Gencon by Kingofpain and Killjoy, and got to meet all my childhood heroes and legends of the game there.  And, of course, I don't think there would have been a NTRPG con if Doug and I had not met here over six years ago.  Thanks to Foul and everyone here for the happiness and fun you've brought me through the past decade!  I'll shoot for another 10+ years here before I croak, I promise...

Mike B.

Now, I just have to keep slogging away at that Killjoy total post count record......still a 1000 more to go....sigh....

Indeed happy aceaumiversary. I am new still (in comparison with all of you mighty posters) but I concur with how awesome my experience has been since then and meeting new friends, Mike B. one of the chiefs among them.

So here is to Mike B.!

But enough about Badmike....

Are any of you Texas people (or anyone else for that matter) backers of SJG's incredibly late and unbelievably heavy O.G.R.E. Kickstarter? Any of you considering going to the announced distribution party in Austin on October 19th?

I don't wish to go by myself but if others are interested I might wish to attend. Maybe make a weekend of it by getting a hotel and reserving a boardroom to play some OGRE. I don't drink, but I encourage my opponents to drink heavily so it might be a good time.

I mostly am encouraged to go to get SJG's signature on that monstrosity of a box :)

Austin. October 19th.

Zach

Ten years of Badmike. How could we be so lucky! All kidding aside, it would not be the acaeum without you. Congrats

Congratulations Mike!

I would like to echo many of the same comments and compliments even though my stay here has been much shorter.  As I visited with a number of ACAEUM members this past weekend, and was able to get to interact with everyone on a much more personal level, I realized more than ever what a fantastic community this is.  I was able to spend a little face time visiting with folks like smarmy, Blackmoor, Invincible Overlord, Scketrewhisp, kingofpain, ExTSR, and yes, Badmike too, and they were all gracious, intelligent, competent and fun!  All they all love D&D!  I am grateful for you all.   :)

Thanks for the kind words guys, it really wasn't a compliment fishing party, but I'll take it....

Zach, I would not get your suitcase packed just yet:

These dates are final, barring something unexpected. We think there won't be any delays from here. What could go wrong? Something happening to the factory; assembly issues; enemy cyberships lying in wait outside Hong Kong harbor; BGG-Zilla coming to life and stomping all over. You get the picture.

Stated jokingly, but still...

Plus, they are charging you $25 to attend??? Cmon now. After the money they got, they are now charging the investors $25 each for the privilege of picking up their game.  Considering how late this was they instead need to have each copy personally delivered by a NTRPG con serving wench who also humbly begs for an apology.

That being said, if you want to go Zach, I'll meet you there, get drunk, and steal some nerd's copy...

Mike B.

And of course Foul has just pointed out to me that my 10th anniversary isn't for another 12 days.....proof positive that I am old and losing it!!!!!

We'll just celebrate a little early, what the hell, no reason to pack up those bottles of champagne and whiskey...

Actually... Gold Label and Basil Hayden should be the next sponsors of NTRPG next year  :D

I know all those things :) However, I do want SJs signature on that and some GURPS stuff and with free airline tickets I didn't feel I had much to lose. Plus $25, though insulting, is less than I spent per hour at NTRPG Con and hardly is a game changer.

:)

There are but a handful of websites that I frequent each day, and only a small percentage of those do I access multiple times per day... Acaeum is on that short list.  The insight, knowledge, and general, good-humored banter found here is too important to miss for long.  Summed up:  Just a freaking awesome site.

Preach it brother throwi...

In the seemingly endless lead up to my Kickstarter project I visited very few of my daily reads as I got busier. The only forum I missed was this one. Even though I checked in on the weekly chat I was missing quite a bit. For example I didn't see the Burntwires pre-pub. A situation which has now been, thankfully, rectified with a PayPal payment. I loved Insidious and would have self-immolated if I missed the new one.

So your analysis is spot on from this gnome's perspective. A hive of scum and villainy we ain't and I am glad I can say 'we' and mean it. Most online communities to me seem superfluous and the friendships formed within them rarely rise above acquaintance status, not so for me here. I have met people that I not only like but truly admire- can't say the same for Facebook. Many of you are my friends over there but without the opportunities around here for careful deliberation I would not feel I knew you all nearly as well. The tacit understanding that what I post will be read, contemplated and thoughtfully answered is pretty unique in my experience online.

Plus all you badasses are a generous lot when it comes to my project. That means a lot more considering the level of people that frequent these forums.

I hope that whatever the costs are for running this site they are defrayed enough by us to keep Scott sleeping on that mountain of $100 bills like a dragon next to his 20 lingerie model girlfriends- like all RPG web masters. However much I can thank this place for being here, it isn't enough.

What is enough is the length of this post, so I will cast silence on myself now ;)

Zach
