I am personally am seeing an uptick in sales of rpg items on eBay.  Cabin fever has resulted in people doing more cooking, gardening, adding pets, as well as gaming/collecting.  And many of those enthusiasts are buying their stuff on-line.  My complete set of Dragonlance modules has received stratospheric interest.  

Big fan of the original movie.  Scratching my head as to why it needed to be remade.

I think its a quality of education thing.
There are plenty of good writers and books out there, and a lot have been optioned with NFA on the part of Hollywood.
But the pool of good script writers seems embarrassingly small, and there is a lot of nervousness about throwing big $ at a project when they know all the employable script writers are crap. So its much safer to divert that money into re-imaging an old success and hoping your 'tards don't totally mess up their tweaking of the original script.

This is a product of how Hollywood works.  Hollywood has always been a very exclusive club, stating in the big Studio days.  There are a few people at the top who control everything.  And if you aren't "in" with this boy's club  (and it is definitely still a boys club, no matter how much they deny it)  you will not get anywhere in the business, no matter how talented you are.  If you don't have the right connections and don't know the right people who can get you in the club, then nobody sees your work.

In the last two decades the exclusivity of this club has gotten tighter and tighter due to social, political and economic factors so that fewer and fewer people and ideas are allowed into the myopic creative bubble that has been created in the industry.  Thus you see the drastic drop in quality and originality coming from Hollywood.  

Fortunately for aspiring artists, there are now some emerging back doors around the Hollywood gatekeepers, in the form of the internet and independent streaming services.  Both are outlets for creative content that don't depend on the Hollywood clique to greenlight their work.  And as technology advances and becomes widely affordable and available, average every day folks with a bit of talent and creativity will be able to create video content that rivals or equals that of anything the big studios can make.  They have a direct interface to get their content to their audience without any middlemen or studio interference.

The end is near for the Hollywood elite.  Their hold on the industry is quickly fading and they are doing everything they can to hasten their own demise.  There's lots of reasons for this but the reasons I state above will be the last coffin nail.

Yes, all of the above. Too many cooks spoil the broth. A good idea gets worked over by Hollywood's art-by-committee approach, which strips away whatever made the original idea for a movie entertaining.
