Unearthed Arcana was just the canonization of much craziness already in existence.  It was the effective end of AD&D, but two greater tragedies were to follow.

The two products that had to suck the worst (as rated by the Suckfest Consortium of Suckstone, Indiana) were Dungeoneer's Survival Guide and Wilderness Survival Guide. (With the Wilderness Survival Guide sucking only slightly less because it included a picture of a hot girl adventurer in a teddy fighting with a squirrel...seriously.)

I wonder how they rate on the list?

I understand that in some third world dictatorships they make you own copies of these books if you piss off the government.

I don't recall seeing any White Wolf stuff on the list, but I could be mentally blocking it.

You still don't get it.  Let's try a different tactic, shall we?

Why do you spend time with your family, your wife and your children?
Why do you spend time with your friends?
Why do you spend time here?

And, let's cut to the chase:

Why do you get up in the morning?

If it's so you can go to a job to squeak out a living so you can pay your bills and do it again the next day... I'd suggest you re-examine your life.

I do it because I love to do it - I love watching new people come to the site and discover the hobby, I enjoy the new games that get listed daily, I enjoy watching the members find the next great module to play. I enjoy the Christmas grab. I enjoy the fund raisers for charity. I enjoy the contests (I'm working on an online adventure for our  year anniversary - hope some of you will participate!). I enjoy watching collectors enter their collections they spent years to accumulate into the worlds largest RPG database project. My 7 role-playing friends that I play with each week are on the forums. The 500 or so people I see every year at the annual Gathering of Friends are there as well. Many people I meet at conventions are there.  I like talking to designers about their games. I feel a part of a community I'm helping to build. I don't do it for pay because that's the last reason to do anything of any real merit.

Everything you've spouted seems to come back to money. I'm sorry that you think everyone does things for money. I haven't felt that enslaved for a long time.

Nobody wants to hear either of us rabble any longer - especially me. Let me end this by saying that I'm not looking to convert all Acaeum members to the 'Geek. If all 1500 members here came to the 'Geek, hardly anyone would notice - the scales aren't even close. What I came here for is to be part of a collectors forum and hopefully attract some of the better people to cross pollinate. For that - I've been successful. In addition to the 9 that showcase their Acaeum micro, another dozen that have geekmailed me and said they found us from here although they didn't feel all that comfortable on the Acaeum forums.  I can't imagine why?

Frankly, bass, you're far too cynical and I'd prefer you didn't frequent RPG Geek. It's fortunate that I don't have to worry about that. That level of toxicity isn't something I'm after.

Pretty low.
#1799 Wilderness Survival Guide
#1816 Dungeoneer's Survival Guide

When more items get rated (and thus ranked) this is likely to end up in the bottom 10% of all RPG items listed in the database.

"Stronger" on the RPG list than the item list:

#24 http://rpg.geekdo.com/rpg/3211/changeling-the-lost

Perhaps due to even the best that WW has(/had) to offer RPG side suffering somewhat on the individual book level from the glut of those? Not sure, since !0D&D seems to get away with that...

I really hope this isn't the kind of treatment Doug and I will get ten years in the future when/if NTRPG Con is attracting hundreds of con goers and becomes a big deal.  After all we (and others asscociated with it) are making nothing these first few years as we set the stage for hopefully more profitable years in the future. However, even if the large gains didn't materialize, Doug and I would continue to do it as long as Doug's money holds out, because it's a labor of love. I think this is the attitude Dave is trying to convey here. Really guys taking him to task because he's not making a lot of money (either as a volunteer or not) is the height of cynicism.

Whatever the purpose or plan of the Geek franchise, I don't think it's fair to Dave to hammer him over NOT making money doing so (usually that's reserved for those individuals who get into our hobby and try to excessively profit off the backs of collectors).

OK, I just drank the Kool-aid and registered.

First article I read was the DUNGEON magazine rankings of the 30 all time greatest adventures.

To my amazement, the G series came in at #30, having to share last place with the D series in the Queen of the Spiders supermodule.

What else can you say when an all-star RPG cast thinks Ghost Tower of Inverness is the greatest module ever...??

Obviously, gaming styles differ.

There just aren't enough sarcastic emoticons to express my contempt.

Not http://robert.infogami.com/Dungeon_116: ... adventures , in that case?
Personally, that deserves more "sarcastic emoticons" purely for the fact that anyone other than TSR is almost incapable of producing an excellent adventure; but then some of us believe that only TSR can do so.
So, yeah, gaming styles differ...

Any RPGG ranking list doesn't look quite so skewed after those, IMO. :)

Odd. Oh well. At least one JG item made that list.

Unfortunately JG doesn't seem to have its own listings when attempting to create your list of items.

Still, its a work in progress... I'm now vieing RPGG as a resource, in the same way as BGG, but it lacks information/depth/fully accurate content yet.

Not at all, Mike.

I think it's the greatest form of business sense what the guys who own the Geek thing are doing.

If you roll out NTRPG and it's successful and brings in money, and then you go and roll out LouisianaCon with your proffits and what you've learned with NTRPG, that's damn good business growth, and it's damn good leadership if you find some guys in Louisiana who will make it happen and devote 20+ hours a week making sure you get your venture off the ground for free.

The leader and the business owner are just right in what they're doing. It's the muppet that spends thousands of hours a year doing it for them that's the idiot in the venture. It would be like T&T who have a proven business model suddenly setting up Wambat & Goose to sell widgets to widget collectors, and then finding people like Dave who will run their online business for them for free.

The idiot is not the business man, the leader, or the passionate creator of an idea or a venture. The idiot is the sheep that devotes his time to such a venture to the tune of what he's purporting to be thousands of hours a year in the full knowledge, not that he's 'helping build a vision' but helping earn someone else's living for them.

I would love to see NTRPG a major event on the RPG calander, and it would be great if you all get rewarded for the effort and time you put in. If it is a big success and you do decide to expand the business model into other areas, give Dave a call. He's the type of volunteer everyone needs.

This week I've been mostly eating . . . The white ones with the little red flecks in them.

The 140 or so Judges Guild items should all be normal entries in the database that you can rate, mark as owned for your collection, sell, trade, etc. You'll find the list of all such products under:

I haven't checked how many are missing under http://rpg.geekdo.com/rpgpublisher/1826/judges-guild ; or are you meaning to be able to display only those Judges Guild items in your RPGG "collection"? :)

Hey - don't shoot the messenger, it's DUNGEON's list!

And I don't much agree with it either... even the RPGG Ranking list of modules fares better, IMO.
