I am no one important, but I was serious with my question above your last post.
My statement above that question was followed by a laughing smily face though....

So, only a Tsojconth can be posted anywhere we want to?
Or any valuable or Rare item?

What are the rules actually?
Do the rules apply only to important members who actually contribute to the site, or can nobodys (like newbies) ignore the rules too?

And NO I am not bent outa shape.
Still large and quite plump actually....
And I am not in the least upset that bbarsh created this thread.
I have considered doing the same thing myself on a couple of occasions for OTHER rare items (I dont have a Tsojconth).

I think my question is very much relevant to this thread.

Any comparably rare/valuable item, sure.  But no, not anywhere, quite obviously.  These sorts of posts have no business in "The Acaeum Distributed Computing Project" forum, for example.  ;)

What are the rules actually?

I don't think there are any rules beyond "employ a bit of common sense."

Do you see any difference between a newbie signing up just to plaster the boards with redundant posts of common items with no significant value, and a long-time member electing to add a single, additional thread in the appropriate forum to highlight a rare item for sale?  I do.

maybe Foul would allow a 'Rares Classified' sticky?

If a newbie comes in and posts his B1 and Dragon #277 in there, he gets a new ass ripped..??

But at least then if something is posted in the 'Rares' those interested for such items will have a look and know about it.

So, does this mean if we (any of us) are planning to sell an item (Rare, or very valuable that is) we should be able to post that item anywhere we want to, instead of only on the classified pages?

Of course the answer to that is NO. Only I can go that  :D

I think my point is that the classifieds mean different things to different people. I really do think we need something like a Rare for sale/trade/whatever sticky.

Hell, just about eveyone here hates ebay for pete's sake. I really hate forking money over to them for mundane auctions. I really don't want those jerks ripping into one my rares. That would just plain be insulting.

I see no reason NOT to harrass a newbie for posting half a dozen duplicate threads on nearly every Board here, all about the same common as dirt items he (or she) just listed on E-Bay.

It was done not long ago in fact and the dork deserved what he (or she) got from the silliness.

A sticky for Rares seems a good idea to me also, but I do not know if Foulfoot would want to create an entirely new sticky for them, since the classifieds are exactly what was needed from the beginning for those items.

And I agree with bbarsh and others that I also HATE like hell paying E-Bay (And Paypal for that matter) for the sale of Rare or expensive items.

I too would rather sell something for less in private....

So, no bbarsh, I honestly have no problem with your posting this thread, it just brought up a few obvious questions that I had wanted to ask anyway.

And I am sorry for taking away from your reasons for the thread with my questions too.  :(

Gnat -

No need to apologize. It is all good in my book. I may not be from Texas, but I do have pretty leathery skin, as the saying goes.... :D

Yeah, but no replies permitted over there, therefore a bit difficult to have open questions/discussion should the seller desire. :)

So what would qualify as a "rare" item, should such a section of the Acaeum be made?

Would it be a "class 5" only item?

What determines the rarity, or demand, in an item, besides such obvious choices: i.e. Brown boxes, the Holy Trinity, Domesday Books, etc.  :)

That would be my only reason against this...

I think class 4 and 5.

I really think this would be easy and a good idea. No need to overthink it. A sticky thread for "high" value trades and in-house auctions.

What about unique stuff and 'one of' items like art/manuscripts...

I think that the classifieds page you have happening here is fine as it is now, imo.

bbarsh wrote:Just in case you missed the classified, I am selling off a tournament Tsojcanth.

From the first post that started this thread (Copied above) there was no apparent attempt to begin a discussion.
This thread was started as a secondary method of informing everyone that a rare item was being offered up for sale in the classifieds.
(seemed so to me anyway)

In other words this thread was started as an advertisement for another advertisement...

The Appraisal Forum is normally used to discuss values.... rarity.... etc...
