I guess I would go for a single item. It is always harder to pull the trigger on big ticket stuff...at least for me.

Maybe a Lost Caverns (you'll never get a Tamo or Inverness at that price).

Didn't a Fazzle go for less than 1k recently?

After that, a woodie if available.

And I could've bought these damn modules off the 1$ rack!!!

You COULD get a Tamo/Inverness, but it wouldn't be in the best of shape.
Fazzle or Tsoj would sell at that price. I've often wondered, if one goes by the ASSUMPTION (and oh, I hate those) that Faz/Tsoj had the same printings as Tamo/Invern, if they had numbered Faz and Tsoj in the same manner, would they go for the same price as T/I? I'm convinced that the numbering of the tourneys as opposed to not numbering them is the reason the numbered runs go for more. You get to say "I have Tamo number 122" as opposed to "I have a Faz".

If you hit a Rowsdower, you get to keep it.

Tamo is quite likely in decent condition; Inverness is still much more sought after and rarer to the market.

Might, with a long wait; and there hasn't been one up recently to prove/disprove, either way.
Tsojconth: Feb 09 $1,328 (3 inch spine tear), Nov 08 $1,355 (nice looking, stated NM), Oct 08 $1,340 (lumberjacques = likely minty), Oct 08 $970 (looked OK, but low feedback user), Jun 08 $1,127 (also torn spine), May 08 $1,168 (Paul Jaquays' fine looking copy)
Fazzlewood: Jan 09 $738 (creased cover, but fresh; still felt like a fluke low price even from a non-D&D seller), Oct 08 $1,625 (lumberjacques = likely minty, hopefully; although I did pick up a damaged Fazzle stated as "mint" and sent it back)

The wizard at the foot of the cover should help, too, but I don't think it makes a huge difference at the end of the day as much as random factors such as collectors with money in their pocket and without the module on the shelf (or wall!).

Not sure that I would, Jeremy, but a lot depends on personal circumstances.
$200 on bags/boards, go hunting a couple decent quality, largish second-hand bookshelves/display cabinets with sliding glass doors aiming for $300-400 if lucky, then $400-500 split into one rare in the $250-300 Misty-ish price bracket immediately and 3-4 in the $50-75 range with a bit of fun hunting over the following 3 months or so.
Possibly keep the last $100 set aside towards a good meal out with the rarest of all?

I would go for a good quality piece of artwork. One of the front covers of one of the DCC mods perhaps?

Having said that, there's nothing wrong with having an unexpected amount of money left in the war-chest for other purchases after having not had to aim quite as high as expected!

Would've been high up my list, too, but the prices have been all over the place on those - difficult to say where $1,000 fits in that equation - and good condition is awkward (plus since there's only one copy known of several of those in new/SW it wouldn't exactly have been an unbiased "recommendation").
Besides, does Jeremy not have those already, if not the Oz Basic Book?

well, I saw my life flash before my eyes yesterday when another car smashed into mine side-on.

Car door bent towards me - then went out again.

Thankfully unhurt

Car not very well tho

Good morning from down under! Hey, thanks for all the suggestions. I guess I'll prowl some of the big ticket items for a while and see if I can get a bargain. Although my birthday is this coming weekend (24 May), I don't feel like celebrating much because of the state of my PhD (I am in the final desperate throes). My wife turns 40 on 16 July - so my goal is to have the PhD in and celebrate jointly at that time (and man will I feel like celebrating if my PhD is in!!!). Once I start working again, I can theoretically re-join the market for more expensive items. Depends how things go over the coming months.

You must be very confused do to your PHD. Women stop aging at 38.

I remember helping a friend of mine write the dissertation for his philosophy doctorate. We used the same 7 terms over and over again in so many different ways that no one could understand a word of it (so of course they loved it). Stop worrying and start drinking.

My first thought after finishing mine was that I'd never have done it if I had known what the process of earning it would be like.

'Course that was a long time ago, and now I'm really glad I did it.
