I'm hoping to attend this year as well, and if I do, I'll certainly play or run some games (or both!).  I'll check with Heather and see how things look.

I should be there as well. And if anyone is interested, we could swing up to south Denton and I could give a tour of Reaper Miniatures (where I work). If we can't get a meeting room in the hotel, I could see about hosting it at Reaper (about a 30 minute drive North from Mike's house).  Tons of room and cheap vending.

Great to hear that Gus.  When did you get back to Texas????

You work at Reaper now????? When is Reapercon this year?
The tour idea sounds like a solid winner, we'll keep in touch the closer the date gets.

BTW we are in talks (well, Doug is) with Paul Jaquays (who lives in the area).  Things sound hopeful that if his schedule is open that weekend we might see him there.

I got back to TX a month ago. My tour in Thailand is over! :-D

I've worked on & off for Reaper for the past few years.  ReaperCon is May 14-17. If any of ya'll can make it to ReaperCon, maybe we can get someone to run a D&D adventure!

Ok, lots of new information as of this week and today, it looks like this thing is really going to happen!

1.  The North Texas RPG Con will be held June 5-7, and we now have a location set at the La Quinta Inn in Bedford, TX.  We were able to secure a meeting room at a very good cost, in a brand new hotel (just opened in December) which is in a good location (very nice part of town).  The meeting room has already been booked and the hotel rooms there are discounted for members of the con.

http://www.lq.com/lq/properties/propertyProfile.do?ident=LQ6188&propId=6188

The hotel is brand new with all the usual amenities (breakfast, hot tub, indoor pool, business center); it is close to the airport; within walking distance of a 24 hour gas station/snack shop (and there is a Texas Land and Cattle Steakhouse about 1 minute away on the other side of the parking lot if you are so inclined).  Other nearby properties were reviewed (Homewood Suites, Hilton, Holiday inn, Marriot, Candlewood Suites, etc) but La Quinta came in by far as the best value, so we booked it today at considerable savings. We were looking for a meeting room large enough for 20 people, the ability to bring our own outside food in (snacks and drinks), affordable enough rooms that anyone coming from, say, McKinney or a little farther would be able to stay the night rather than drive all the way home without taking a huge hit to the wallet; the ability to use the meeting room until midnight or perhaps a little later; and a meeting room set apart from the hotel rooms. This location fit all these criteria.  The rooms have been discounted for anyone with the convention and are far more affordable than other locations we scouted out. Also there is free wireless so we will probably have some live chat room contact as well as live video Saturday night.

2.  Doug has been in contact with Trolllord Games, and they have shown interest in sending someone to perhaps run a game or sell/promote product (Richard).  This is still being discussed but the Trolls have been very supportive.

3. Due to Gus Landt it looks like we will be able to tour Reaper Miniatures at some time, this is totally dependent on Reaper and Gus, but signs look good. Thanks Gus!!!

4.  Doug has contacted Paul Jaquays and he is interested in attending if his schedule allows. Needless to say Paul does not attend many of these things and this would be an awesome opportunity to talk to the man.  I'm crossing my fingers that this will pan out.

5.  A web domain has been purchased and we should start placing info up there soon.  It will contain updates and any other info that becomes available about the get-together.

5.  A raffle or auction is being discussed to help defer costs for the convention (which we have already paid for up front; if you show up you are only responsible for your own place to stay).  Items may include a Dragon #1, a signed copy of the Tabletop Warriors gaming supplement,  and a set of the signed and numbered Rob Kuntz PPP products.

6.  The one activity we are sure of is a BBQ Saturday afternoon at Doug's place.  Along with lots of good food we will fire up the Margarita machine.  If anyone is still concious afterwards we will hopefully retire to the meeting room for gaming.

7.  So far we have no specific games planned.   I"m hoping we can get at least a couple of old-school D&D games run. I have a couple of ideas of one-shots I want to run with an "Acaeum" theme if given the time.  Doug and myself have several board games available we can bring for those that might not want to roleplay including Arkham Horror (original and new version), Battlelore, Talisman (classic), Dungeon and whatever someone wishes to bring.

Anyway continue to post here or PM me if you think you can attend, the more definites we get the more activities we can plan in anticipation of the day.

serleran,

Sure you can post it there...

The room can actually hold about 30 (and I hope to fill it)... I'd like to see this be successful so we can plan next year's immediately after this and possibly get more vendors involved to help draw a larger crowd (though I don't think I'd want to see it get too big... my back yard can only handle about 40-50 people anyway....)

The rooms at the La Quinta have 2 Queen beds, so easy to split a room with someone and the room is $99.00.

Mike exaggerated about the walk to the "Land and Cattle Steak House", it's about 60 paces out the front door of the Hotel, so unless you walk real slow, it's about 30 sec away :)

The new web domain is NOT online yet, I just purchased it yesterday and I need to setup a website and decide which software to use since I'd like a "registration" process so we can get some definite numbers... then we can print badges etc... reason is, we are also going to the local gaming store to see if attendees can get a discount on game supplies should anyone need any over the weekend.

I'll get busy on the website so we can have a concise place to post all this... and hopefully have an agenda soon.

OK, I'm looking for a roommate for this, since driving from Bedford to Dallas on a Friday or Saturday night can get slow or frightening due to traffic.

BTW I believe the discounted room rate is $90 a night, each room with two double beds. So if you double up, it's very affordable at $45 a night per person (before tax of course).

The room price is $99.00

It doesn't look like much since the current price is only $105.00, but they just opened on Dec 31 2008 and are running the $105.00 special until March 31st I believe.

Then the prices go up to $129.00 or more per night.

So the $99.00 in June is a good $30.00+ off at that time.

If you get a female roommate, I don't think you'll be snoring too much.

Ok,

The website has been updated a number of times the last couple of days, so be sure to check back to see what's new.

http://NorthTexasRPGcon.com

We have decided that SOME items in the raffle will be available to people who are NOT in attendance.

At the moment, this only includes the Dragon #1

As we get other donated items for the raffle, we will determine what else can be raffled to anyone buying tickets.

I will create a PayPal link for those wishing to purchase raffle tickets.
