Hi Gnat,
Thanks for the reply.  Will you be at NTRPG this week?  I am probably not explaining the cover texture item correctly.  When the DMGs are new, they all seem to have a smooth texture.  I have found on my copies that as the dmgs wear, some of them wear differently.  Some wear exposing a stringy grid like structure beneath.  Other covers seem to have more of a smooth paper finish.  When those wear, they tend to chip, rip and tear more and do not appear to have the stringy grid like structure beneath.  I was going to bring my copies so that you can see the difference.  You seem to have the most 1st print dmgs of those that have responded so far.  If you could bring some or all to NTRPG, that would be great.  I am interested in all 1st prints but especially the blue and red flame copies.

Regarding the misaligned E and red dot, I am not totally surprised that those items are not tied to the flames especially for the no flame copy. Your input has been quite useful.

TSR let some pretty impressive variances get to market, judging by this one I found today. Has anybody else seen one this bad?

That has to be the most out-of-register piece I have ever seen. It boggles my mind that it made it out of the door.

First off, in order for that to happen, it would have had to have been missed multiple times, as it could have been spotted at the press once for each color printed (at least the last three colors), once when cut (possibly), once when attached to the backing board, and once when bound to the pages. That is a disaster that I am amazed saw the light of day.
