Actually I was thinking of stuffing him and putting him in the WTC museum when it gets up and running. If they can preserve Lenin all this time....maybe our great great grandchildren will be lifting the middle finger to Osama's corpse someday!

I don't know why we're celebrating.  We killed one guy.  Tomorrow, Afghanistan will still be a nation of lunatics and we'll still be there.

Granted, he had it coming.  Granted, finally justice found him.

I just don't feel all that much elation.

Like Afghanistan isn't already a nation of lunatics?

I'd do the same at the death of any mass murderer that was running around free, actively trying to cause more deaths.  To not celebrate that is sort of ridiculous. It's like saying the death of JFK or MLK was no biggie because they were just "one guy".  It's gotta be some kind of kick in the dick to those millions of fanatics over there. Hell, they get psychologically deranged over there when we BURN A BOOK.  This ought to send them jumping off bridges.

Still.  Still a nation of lunatics.

But my point was...

While it's good that Bin Laden is dead, it isn't an accomplishment by itself.  In my view, the celebration is premature.

A small team of Americans killed bin Laden in a firefight Sunday at a compound in Pakistan, the president said, and took custody of his remains. American officials said they were being handled in accordance with Islamic tradition.

Yeh, cause it's Islamic tradition to POP THEM IN THE HEAD WITH A BULLET AND DRAG THEIR BODY OUT OF A FIREFIGHT BY THEIR HEELS!  I'm sure all the muslims out there will be happy at the "respect" we gave Osama's dead body.

I swear, political correctness will be the doom of this country someday. I'd rather have heard they gave the body to feral dogs to tear at.

I know what your saying and this may end up being some kind of TET in Afghan and Iraq. I just hope the government is aware enough to be on guard.

I do think it is a damn good reason for celebrating.

I say to H E L L with his body being respected according to ANY religious or cultural code of belief...
I think the monster should have his head removed with a machete on LIVE TV Broadcast to the entire world!!!
Then hang the head and the rest on a couple of poles for a few days in front of the place where the Towers once stood.
After it gets ripe, set it afire for a while.
Then bury it all in pigskins; except for his reproductive organs.
Bury that crap elsewhere, or just torch it all.
Those 72 virgins would just have to be disappointed.

The Radical Muslims will continue to hate us regardless of how special we might treat that rotting corpse anyway.
Might as well have some satisfaction and visual revenge for a short time.

And before day even breaks they have dumped the body at sea.

Now all we have are blood samples and picutres to prove he is dead.

I simply cannot believe how this country is being led. It was a dangerous but necessary move to kill Bin Laden. But dumping his body, he will always be rumored to be alive, forever. He is now a martyr and a consipracy.

I suspect the government will try to orchestrate something similar with Bin Laden's body like the way they handled the Saddam Hussein situation.  I mean, the US could have killed Hussein and perhaps gained some revenge or satisfaction from that, but what happened was ultimately so much better.  Justice was ultimately administered by his own people.  The way the US handled Hussein was to not make it an East vs West solution.

I think an approach like this is taking on the long view that we are out to kill terrorism and Al Quaida, and pure retribution doesn't accomplish this as well.  Oh, I don't know what they could do, maybe turn the body over to the Saudis, his home country, and let them desecrate the body?  I'm not saying they'll do that, but there's probably some group, mosque, or country with Muslim ties that could do the dirty work.

Personally, I am very excited about what's happening in Libya and Syria and what has already happened in Egypt and Tunisia.  These countries and ideas are fighting with each other instead of us, and hopefully, they'll come around and become more democratic as opposed to a dictatorship based on power and guns leading to a nation of people who think power and guns are the solution to any differences.

So, I am all for justice, but I am hoping they can use this in some way to further divide and conquer Al Quaida because FormCritic is right.  This ain't over.   :?

News is saying that they've already flushed the body.

As for what is happening in the middle-east, well the muslim groups replacing the various dictators bode worse things for the USA then the dictators themselves.

I'd rather see a fragmented middle-east than an Iranian backed united middle east. Now if the various groups want to drive themselves back into the stone age, well and good. A long drawn-out civil war that wrecks all these various countries is probably too much to hope for.

I care about my family and my country and confusion to my enemies. The just thing would be for these scum-bags to all kill each other.

Dumping at sea is just fine with that POS.
You do not want to leave a physical site where his adoring worshipers can rally around.
If there were any doubts about the identity the military would have hung on to the body until they had positive ID.
It is nice that he was killed with the personal touch of a bullet instead of a missile.

Time to bring the troops home. A continuing presence will not change the way that people think and act in that region. It just requires some observation and the occasional Tomahawk to keep things in order.

It would have been nice to have brought him back alive in a cage. Dumping the body at sea less than a day after he was killed and before the sunrise after his death was announced is simply insane.

How can we prove he is dead and not being held captive? How can we prove he is dead at all and not a look alike (one of his vast brood of relations). How can we prove anyone was killed and some look alike now pops up? Or prepared tapes?

And it makes little difference because dead the bastard is a martyr and disappeared he is a martyr or a mystery or a messiah whose body was taken up by angels while the guards were asleep.

Getting rid of the body was a very, very bad idea.

I'm not so sure about that.  Smarter people than me made this decision.  I don't know why, but it possible that if they hadn't, it would have politicized the handling of the body more.  Of course, anything that happens with this has political consequences.  The bad thing is, almost anything done with the body is going to be the wrong thing in the eyes of his supporters so why draw it out?

I have a personal interest in this situation.  My wife is in Israel right now, and will be over seas for more than a week.  I'm not interested in more actions that provoke retribution.

Lincoln said something like the best way to defeat your enemies is to make them your friends.  And while that may be pie in the sky for everyone, I think the US has gone a long way towards making that happen for lots of people.  I think what's beginning to happen in Egypt and Tunisia are indirect results of initiatives by democracies all over the world.  It won't be easy, and there will be setbacks, but the evidence of positive change is certainly obvious to me.

I just hope that this handling of the body was done with the intent of winning the war against Al Quaida.  Win the war against terrorism.  8)
