The Knox case in the UK is being reported as US Girl gets together with tqo guys and murders her flatmate after a party. Both guys go down and US girl is trying to get pff with it by pleading US citizen being persecuted abroad. Pretty anti-US, but the facts seem to support her being complicit in murder.

Hope this gets some news over here (although clearly it's not headline stuff so must 'rags' won't bother   ) because it could be an example that sport & education do actually work together.

The Italian prosecuter in this case is already under investigtion for his conduct in other cases...as in taking bribes. Color me shocked  

Knox screwed up by 1. Being American; 2. Not paying the bribe she was offered at the very beginning; 3. Being American; 4. Living a funky lifestyle and posting weird stuff on Facebook, and 5. Being American. Zero forensic evidence exists to prove she did anything (anyone believing otherwise please post the link to the forensic evidence) but hey there have been worse travesties of justice in the US. Dallas county has released about two dozen people the last few years since DNA evidence cleared them; sad to see Italy hasn't even the facilities Dallas County does to prove innocence or guilt. The Dallas group were convicted because of lousy police work that dictated grabbing the nearest dude and convicting him on flimsy circumstantial evidence.  Thank goodness DNA testing is starting to release these individuals.

People who travel or live overseas and are from the US need to understand what "Napoleonic Code of Justice" means for you and how it difers from "innocent until proven guilty" and "jury of your peers".  You might think twice about traveling overseas if you realize your rights are pretty much zilch....

BTW Mexico much worse. You have no jury trials, and a judge hears your case and decides whether you are guilty or not based on what evidence the prosecuter has given him plus the prosecutor's recommendation (defense is not able to bring a case but a defense lawyer can argue for you, if you can afford one).  As you can guess the prosecutor recommends guilty, oh, 100% of the time, and the judge typically goes along with it. Amnesty International speculates only 8% of people in Mexican jails are actually guilty of the crime they have been incarcerated for....  

I knew a friend and his girlfriend who were arrested in Mexico possessing marjuana (about a joint's worth) 20 years ago or so.  They were facing up to 10 years in prison but their parents paid a $50k "fine" (to the judge personally) and they were released.  I'm sure that's still the case of justice in that 3rd world country.

Interesting that OJ got off a murder case that DNA proved he had committed, and now will spend the rest of his life in jail for something I honestly don't think he planned or expected would get as out of control as it did.  Sometimes justice takes a twisting path....
