I watched episode IX three days ago, i will say one thing only: for those who are in the position to still be able to avoid it, do not go to the cinema! That is an offense to the whole history of sta wars and the scifi genre!

I went to see the movie Star Wars today, and I'm glad I went ahead and saw it.  There are some significant reveals in the movie that will obviously reduce any enjoyment if you already know them, and it'll be hard to get away from them if you use any social media or have any Star Wars friends/kids.  They had a lot to wrap up, and they tried to do just about everything but bring back Jar Jar Binks.  Thank goodness they didn't do that!    Cramming everything is as they did, it felt contrived.  They even had two women kissing each other.  The movie was mostly serious with few funny lines/scenes.

My guess is that, the closer you are to being born somewhere in 1955-1970, the more you'll hate the movie.  You can't compete with nostalgia, even with nostalgia.  Of course, Director JJ Abrams had several nostalgia appealing moments, but they are never like you felt them.  Being born in 1960 myself, Disney gave a good faith effort, but it was never going to be good enough for our generation.

It wasn't too long or too short, but you probably want to go to the bathroom before the movie starts.  There were a lot of previews at my theater.  There are no bonus scenes at the end.  My theater had maybe twenty people in it for a 11:50 AM showing which surprised me.  I thought there would be more.  I did not see it in IMAX or 3D.  I wouldn't say it's necessary to see it in the theater if you are already pessimistic.  It'll be on TV eventually....

I think to chalk up to nostalgia how much Disney alienated viewers - by retconing the first 7 or 8 pictures so as to be completely meaningless - seriously misses the pulse of audiences. I'm glad you enjoyed it, though. I'm sure the technical production was impressive.
