Ouch! I've often wondered what would happen in such a case, and how easy it would be to resolve. Keep us posted on how it plays out.

Yep sent the offer to the second highest bidder but didn't reply,  So I'll try to sell it here in the classifieds before putting it back up on ebay. I posted the price on the classifieds side on the woodgrain 3rd printing post I put up if anyone is interested. Pm me if your interested. Aloha.

I asked the seller if they were the original owner - " Yes, I am. Bought it as a freshman in college in 75 or 76."  I then asked if it was purchased from Gygax in Lake Geneva - "no, I lived in Memphis and it was in a small off-campus bookstore."

Cool old TSR style of the Five Armies box set. Not sure about completeness since the counters are punched. But interesting to me

It's almost frightening what that guy has up. Besides the two Woodies, a 1st Print Basic Set, Character Archaic and TWO Earliest Chainmails!

Nice to see he has a completed sale on a 3rd print Woody that he sold some time ago (along with some other choice stuff). From his FB, it looks like he knows how to pack too.

Like I've said before, I haven't been following pricing on this stuff as long as most of you have, but it seems like a lot of early product has been in motion the last year and half.

I can definitely agree with that. I'm in a Facebook Reseller Group and the Bill Hoyt Woody that sold around last Christmas was posted over there as a BOLO. Obviously the 1st print Woodies are included in what I meant, they are the Holy Grail. But I was more including everything early in gaming - Calhamer's copy of Diplomacy, all of the Guidon items and other early Wargaming Materials, tons of early Indie items. Timing has to do with it too especially with the Treasure Trove Auctions, the right people are at the age that they are downsizing or in some cases (sadly) needing to pay Medical Bills could explain some of it too. I think it's a good thing that people that have owned and loved or created this stuff are being compensated for their "Treasures" or if they are deceased - that their families are.

One of my pet peeves is people that concern themselves and judge what others spend their hard earned money on. I'm guilty of it too sometimes to be honest about it though.
I get both sides of it though, but I don't have any sympathy for people that want the greatest things and don't want to pay anything for it. That's not how it works. I don't peruse the Gaming Forums much but have seen a little of what people are calling the "Acaeum Effect" and that we are all just a bunch of Fat Cat jerks hording all of the good stuff. I wanted an OD&D set for my collection but couldn't justify (for me) the expense of a Woody so I bought a 4th print with a crappy box and almost a full set of early printings Supplements - what was important to me was the condition of the books and that they had the prices on the covers and the Ents & Hobbits stuff - a very attainable goal for me. But to condemn someone for being willing to spend more money than they would - Grrr. Especially when it's about the best in that Collecting Field.
