Affluence can be the beginning of the end of a great civilization. Consider this famous outline, attributed to Alexander Tytler (1748-1813) of the sequential stages of a civilization:

From Bondage to Spiritual Faith,
From Spiritual Faith to Great Courage,
From Courage to Liberty,
From Liberty to Abundance,
From Abundance to Selfishness,
From Selfishness to Complacency,
From Complacency to Apathy,
From Apathy to Dependency,
From Dependency back into Bondage.

Where do you figure we fall in this list of stages.  Now consider that every democracy after it has collapsed has been replaced by a dictatorship.

Apathy to Dependency.  The typical voter, if bothered enough to vote at all, is terribly misinformed on most issues, and more people are on the dole every day.  Not only are they misinformed, but most are also blissfully unaware of how much they pay in taxes, directly and indirectly.  Hopefully won't see the collapse in our lifetimes, but certainly America and the west in general is moving towards a kind of "soft totalitarianism."

Pandering to the lowest moral denominator in society is like educating your children to the capability of the stupidest person in the class.

Tolerance of the willfully stupid and lazy is destroying the fabric of all Western societies. The BIG mistake every generation makes is assuming you can motivate and educate the cancerous. You cannot.

The only possitive action you can take is to educate and motivate the children of these people. And in doing so, you also need to overcome the natural inclination the degenerate parents have to hold back and destroy their childrens' educations and aspirations. Scummy parents breed scummy children, and society's liberal attitude towards tolerating and paying for them is destroying our communities.

Think of the USA or UK as a very talented and obese businessman. In order to make him healthier you need to get rid of all the fat and desease within him. Making him poorer or thicker is not helping. Cutting awat his cancer and fat will.

Ian mentioned getting a slew of malware/spyware alerts when clicking on the above link.  Although I didnt see any problems when I clicked on it, please do so at your own risk!

Warning! - The link is full of malware trojans.

By all accounts Washington has had it worse that the majority of the UK did.

Maybe you have a better anti-virus than me.  :D
I'm running Kaspersky 2010 and it went nutz.    Didn't appear to anything other than malware core though, but it blocked about 15 hits in the first few seconds as the page loaded.
It's nothing to be worried about unless you don't have decent anti-virus. I just thought it should be flagged in case people were not keeping their subs up-to-date.

Doubtful....I'm at work and we use Symantec 10.1.6.  I dont use Kaspersky but I've always heard it works better than just about anything out there.  Firewall or browser security settings maybe?

I guess best option is to not click on the link unless you are all up to date on your internet security.  This means YOU Badmike!!!

That's crazy amounts of snow.

Here's an interview that discusses the European debt levels, social programs, and similarities to the U.S.  Thought I'd include it based on the previous discussions.

Not watched it yet. Out of office. But the UK is up to it's eyeballs in debt as I understand it. Not the sort of country anyone should be investing in anytime soon.

Actually, today, everyone began backing off buying our debt. Another supportive strut collapses. Thank God (or Cthulhu).

Hmmm.  They both played D&D?  Sounds pretty convincing to me.

That would mean, of course, that all the thousands of other insane killers must have also played D&D?  Right?

Oh...wait...you don't mean to imply that the common factor was insanity?

That's just ridiculous.  How could people go insane without playing D&D?

It's certainly helped me along the way..

I suppose we'll never see the end of the anti-D&D trope. It's become a permanent entry of the Attention-Seeking Journalist's Handbook.

Guys, it's the Boston Herald. They get most of their stuff from the National Enquirer. I'm sure they've run several pices on Bat Boy in the past. Believe me when I say it's a used shitrag.
I'm never surprised at how misinformed and idiotic the general public is. Remember the PAS rule: People Are Stupid.

Be sure and read the comments....they are hilarious. After an ass-whipping like that the author might be going into another profession. I would be embarrassed to have my name on that article if I was the author....although "author" is laying it on a bit thick.

That is a particularly poorly written article, something akin to the satirical news programmes we had over here a few years ago, 'Brass Eye' and 'The Day Today'. Treat yourself and watch those if you can, they are comedy genius and show the hyped journalistic game for what it is!   8)
