In the short term, WotC won't even look at such a small operation (compared to their big numbers), even most considering they are producing a different game that, despite the pretorian fans of WotC feelings, has nothing to do with the OD&D or the OSR. In the long term, Hasbro doesn't care because Hasbro would love to drop out D&D to replace it with something more profitable and less "rebellious".The fact that this has crated so much fear in the OSR community shows how much it has to grow yet. But it will, don't worry.

bbarsh wrote:Look, I want DCG to be enormously successful. It is good for the OSR. However, don't simply think WotC is only looking at numbers. That is simply not realistic. AD&D is their trademark. If they do not defend it, it will go very badly for them in the future. You maybe 100% correct and they may do nothing. Then again, they may send out a cease and desist letter before things get out of hand. I would not expect anything more than that. The entire reason behind the OGL is to limit exposure to WotC and their brand by protecting their trademark. Maybe, they let it go. But don't be shocked when they decide to take action. I know I wouldn't sit around.

I called him a little bitch and I'd say it to his face.Going to lunch soon so some really quick observations:The tone of self-righteous indignation from the masses is deafening, and hypocritical. Who would have thought the gamers who love to play a CN thief in a game are really at heart LG ass kissers in real life....I guess that's why it's a fantasy game, right? I'm talking about gamers (like Josh) without a horse in the race whatsoever, that are trying to outdo each other calling Devon the servant of Asmodeus. Meanwhile I've been exchanging emails with Matt Finch about other stuff and he seems about as concerned as a guy being told a mosquito is attacking his Hummer. The stink of fear of the unknown is really sad. I am so tired of people saying SOMETHING REALLY BAD is going to happen to the entire OSR if this ONE ITEM isn't stopped immediately. Are they going to get rid of the OGL? (I understand that cannot happen). Take away my books? Stop me from Skyping a D&D game? Close down NTRPGCon? Kick my puppies? Seriously guys. The perspective of the average Nathan Ninny on the blogosphere is barely past their fat bearded face. Especially embarrassing are the "Please WOTC, don't take us, TAKE THE UNBELIEVER!" posts that whine about keeping a low profile and not rocking the boat. God, if I had two dollars to spend I swear I would try to publish "Badmike's OSR Book of Butts, Boobs, Bacon and Bitches" just to watch the panties wad up.... Seriously most of the guys out there claiming to be part of an OSR are about as cutting edge and risk taking as the 40 year old guy opting for a New Kids on the Block reunion concert instead of front row seats to the Strokes. Not a pretty picture. If the OSR is this fragile little flower with a eco-system that cannot stand up to a light breeze, what's the point anyway. Worst comes to worst, WOTC shuts it all down, we go back to using Microsoft publisher to make our own creations, complete with hand drawn maps, badly illustrated NPCs, and tons of house rules. We email and distribute them online in the forums, blogspots, social networks and websites that WOTC cannot hope to control. We continue to play the game we love for as long as we like. Shut the fuck up and game....Mike B.
