Hi all -

I was asked to comment here by a prospective bidder.

This copy was purchased in an auction some time between 1999 and 2001, I can't remember the exact year.

I do not know the history of the item prior to the purchase.

The shrinkwrap has an overlap width-wise across the exact middle of the back of the module.

Some of the shrinkwrap has come apart at the corners.

If anyone needs a photo of a specific location to verify please let me know.

As a side note I've fixed the title of the Tsojconth module auction, that was stupid of me

That shrinkwrap overlap is NOT consistant with my SWed copy of this module.
My copy has what appear to be three SW joints; along both sides and at the bottom rear of the module with no overlaps.
The SW is not loose, tight actually. (A bit too tight really)

The Torn corners (Of the shrinkwrap) on this copy may be part of the reason for the shrink looking looser than other examples of this SWed module.

IIRC, all three of the ones I have had were tight, to the point of slight warping sometimes. I don't recall any extra shrink at the corners. One, though, did have very slight char marks on some edge areas of the shrink. I am guessing the shrinkwrapper fell asleep while it was being sealed.
We can play Guess that OB3! I say it goes for $760.

If you hit a Rowsdower, you get to keep it.

just to be clear, i doubt the item is a fake, merely that it is almost certainly not original shrinkwrap. many collectors here buy an item to have for a while and then eventually resell, meaning that they are unlikely to remove the current shrinkwrap. given that it has been re-wrapped (in my opinion) the interior condition will emain a current mystery. but the next buyer might find surprises... this is crux of the friendly disagreement that faro & i have about original (even if it is tattered) shrink. i value it highly because it is proof against interior writings/markings etc.

The pictures of the OB3 are not enough to convince me that the shrink is not original. I've had dozens of items with similar problems, including the horizontal seam on the back (which comes loose and results in looseness top & bottom) and bunching/crinkling at the corners (prolly a result of the same break). (I know absolutely that mine were/are original since I got 'em while at TSR, in the office or in the warehouse.)

If I had it in my hands I could tell by the shrink itself, I think. If aged and brittle, definitely original; if soft and pliable, almost certainly a rewrap.

Part of the problem is that the automatic abbr (or acronym -- I forget which it is) tag insertion for orange B3's is broken: it inserts the tag for O[size=0].[/size]B3, and then immediately spots "B3" in the explanation and tries to enter another tag within the original tag, thereby breaking it and producing the resultant ugly text.

Very odd. Only the R-2 sold, with one bid. No bids on the R-1 or R-3. While the starting bids weren't "bargains," they weren't all that unreasonable, either. Does everyone have the R series already? :roll:

I'd love to have them, and kept track of these listings. However, irrespective of "market value" and my ability to pay, I am unwilling to shell out that much for them. I do collect pre-1983 TSR items, so these are definitely on my radar, but $100 or so apiece is about as high as I'd be willing to go. Chalk it up to lack of seriousness as a collector on my part, or what have you.

I thought the R1 starting price was way too high and may have kept people from considering a bid. The other two were a bit more realistic. Although I am surprised that the R2 sold and the R3 did not since it normally seems to fetch a higher price than the first two. And I also though the R3 was in better condition overall than the others. Kinda strange IMO but the market has been pretty unpredictable lately.
