That's what I thought. But on the other hand, any attempt to put Elric on screen would probably look ridiculous, while Hawkmoon at least has a chance.

Congrats Olivia Colman on the Oscar. Well deserved  .. and I heartily recommend The Favourite. Great film.

As I stated in an earlier post, I've been reading books I should have read years ago.  I just finished a number of books and stories by H.P. Lovecraft.  I have heard many people speak passionately about his writings, and I am glad I finally understand what the fuss is about.  Gary Gygax found his writing inspirational, and his descriptions, in particular, are evocative and eerie.  WG4 The Forgotten Temple of Tharizdun has a Lovecraftian feel to it, for example.  I liked how many of Lovecraft's stories intertwined in terms of the mythos, locations and reference materials.  He displays an impressively expansive vocabulary, all of which add to the aura of ancient worlds and ways.  He also displays a flair for a surprise ending.  My favorite stories were "The Outsider," "The Whisperer in the Darkness," and "Herbert West - Reanimator."

While I am pleased I read his writings, I wouldn't say they were my favorite Appendix N books.  In my opinion, they were overall very good but not fantastic.  They are more creepy than scary.  I thought his short stories were better overall than his longer works, but "At the Mountains of Madness" was pretty good.  H.P. uses the word "furtive" often. Sometimes he's a little hard to read, and I found myself needing to re-read a page sometimes.

H.P. Lovecrafts' contribution to horror was clearly seminal and inspirational to writers and gamers alike.  If you haven't yet read any of his writings, it's worth your while.  

Agent Cooper wrote in Random Thoughts or OT Chit-Chat Thread:I humbly suggest "Pickman's Model" as a good one to start out with for somebody new to Lovecraft.  It's one of his more accessible short stories.  Excellent story and a great primer for Lovecraft's style.

I was just about to suggest the same thing! One of his best stories and if you play Fallout 4, there is a really nice reference to Pickman and Lovecraft in the game. Heheheheheh...
