We should have 'vent your anger after being sniped' thread. It would be quite funny.

I know how you feel Milford, I've felt like posting a similar rant after being sniped (and no I am not the sniper)

I think this one belongs in the silliest prices thread.  Read the description: stock photo used, cover has wear.  This is my favourite part: "inside pages are in a very good to near mint".  Some pages are very good others are near mint - I think that means the condition is very good but nice to work in the "near mint".



How about the top half of the book is dog rogered but the bottom half is near mint.

Just read the auction - might be doing a disservice to this seller, says he will refund postage after auction. (Though still seems an odd way to go about it, particularly if he seems to know his shipping is high)

I think it was a sixth print, which is the first of the revised ones.  The seller stated it had 236 (?) numbered pages, but maybe meant 238. (Unless a page was torn out?).

We had a discussion about sniping fellow acaeum members a long time ago on this thread. Or actually, I think it was more about posting stuff that one of us found under a rock and were bidding on. You know, that auction that nobody else knows about because there is a listing error or it includes some rare item half buried under a pile of otherwise junk.

With the new secret ID thing, it is virtually impossible to tell if it is one of us in the game. I wonder if we shouldn't come up with some sort of sticky thread to "fix" this problem...

What problem needs to be "fixed" exactly?  I understand people get frustrated when they get outbid on something, especially at the last second by a sniper.  But shit happens and you move on.  In this particular regard, Ebay has made it simpler by hiding bidder ID's.  Now I dont have to worry about outbidding another Acaeum member because I dont have a clue who else is bidding on the item I am interested in.  Used to be if an item I was interested in had already been bid on by another Acaeum member I might not bid on it just out of courtesy, but that depended on the item and how badly I wanted it.

I would recommend that if you want something badly you 1) Dont post about it on a forum thread (not that others here arent going to notice it most of the time), and 2) bid as high as you are willing to bid or wait until the last second and snipe yourself.  I really dont understand the whole problem with sniping.  It is what it is....just another tactic to win an auction.  Sometimes I do it and sometimes I dont....just depends on the item.

And as far as angry PM's from other forum members...I have never received one and I hope that I never do because I would lose any respect I might have had for someone who did that just because they lost out on an auction.  I have sent plenty of congratulatory PM's to forum members that have outbid me on items and I believe that is the way it should always be.  This hobby is competitive enough as it is without having to resort to cutthroat tactics and stabbing each other in the back just to get a deal on a rare item.

Oh and by the way.  The next Cavaliers & Roundheads that comes up is mine.  Don't even think about bidding on it or I will find out where you live and burn your damn house down.  

John, I think I might have a copy and will check for you.  It's not something I'd be set on keeping in my collection.
