That's a 2nd printing (1st actually has a velcro fastener).
1st & 2nd are fairly rare, and in SW is even rarer of course.

According to this:

http://www.tomwham.com/snrev.html

it is the opposite. The first printing has a purple background and no velcro, while the second printing has a white background and the velcro fastener.

Which one is correct?

I'm pretty sure the purple one came first.  The plasticized white box with velcro came out later when The Awful Green Things from Outer Space was released in a similar style box.

Then came the long boxes.

That is Tom's web site linked above............. and here below too.
That page is linked directly to Tom's statements as to Print Run and a short history of that specific game.

http://www.tomwham.com/snrev.html
Snit's Revenge
1978! My first game in a box. The first 5000 copies were in a conventional box with a purple background. The ad people at TSR hated the color combination, so when the second printing came around, the purple haze turned white. Also, the second printing had a plasticized wrap around board with velcro closure. The rules, dice, and pieces were in a box inside the playing board (which shrank some). Personally, I liked the larger, paper playing board that came with this first printing.

The third printing (my guess is some time in 1980) was in a big flat box (same size as the second printing of Awful Green Things). The game has lay dormant for a long time. However, a redesign of this and Snit Smashing has been released by Steve Jackson Games. It's just called Snits.

You're probably right, velcro 2nd.

Going by memory from 25 years back can be hazardous. :/

But I still think the velcro one is rarer.

I'm not sure if it is rarer but it is definitely harder to find in great shape.  Those velcro boxes crush so much easier.

9 hours to go and still a suuuuper price!

Masteryaya got this at a pretty good price.  But two things about this auction bother me.  1) Did the first and second printing come with the lead wizards like the third print did?  2) Where did the seller get the info that M.A.R. Barker wrote Metamorphosis Alpha?

And there is another 3rd print up at the moment:

No the lead figures are only in the boxed 3rd print.  The first two came in ziplock bags.

Interesting in that it lists the B3 so high and yet they are using a STOCK PHOTO.

Interesting?

What is more interesting that watching a train wreck in action?

If it was just the price then yes, that post should be posted in the silly price thread.

It was listed before with a large BIN or reserve, but got no bids.
