D&DG w/Cthulhu probably ends up carrying the most out of whack prices of any collectible D&D item, simply because people have heard it was "banned" or taken off the shelves whatever. Any trip to Ebay can find a half dozen ready for purchase, though, making it one of the easiest to find collectibles in the hobby.



 A local mom and pop booktore years ago had a beat up copy in their front cabinet with a $200 price tag that sat there for about a year.  I finally mentioned one day that the price it was listed at was way over what it went for on ebay or anywhere else for that matter. They tried to patiently explain to me that it was a "banned" book and as such was worth more, I even more patiently explained back that it was never "banned" and told them to check Ebay for prices because it was not overly rare by any means.  Sure enough, when I came back in the next time, they had indeed lowered the price....to $150.  It never sold the entire time the store was open.

In a typical Lovecraft story, someone who finds a book of Mythos lore doesn't realize what they've got, maybe thinking they've found something which will bring them fabulous riches or power. Then the descent into madness begins.

Isn't there also usually a character who tries to warn them, who is invariably scoffed at? Life imitates art.

I'm not sure these would be worth the BIN even if they were made of solid gold.

For this price, it is rather easy to get the complete boxed silver anniversary set... and the module is not in near mint condition...

But everything is Okay, I have got the box. And it is very nice.

I don't know why the seller posted his box after the sale for an amount *8... but I have got it, and I am happy with it.

Man this auction is crap.

I did not think the original price of $100 was even remotely out of line for this set.
Books are in excellent condition, includes the Reference Sheets and the box has only one major issue... the Tape Residue on top.

The 2nd listing for the $125 OD&D Set you linked to included a Make an Offer button, which I used.
I paid significantly less than that items original starting price of $100.
