I had two problems on Amazon...both having to do with items that were damaged.  One by a small mistake in handling that bent a corner and the other got a cover slightly bent in the mail.

1st Incident: The seller immediately sent me another copy for free, and let me keep the first module.

2nd Incident:  The seller immediately refunded all of my money, including shipping, apologized and let me keep the module.

As a buyer, I can't fault Amazon, but from others experience here, sellers are wide open to potential abuse.
However my wife recently purchased from a seller on Amazon, two weeks later still no item. Then no reply from the seller, so within 24hrs of contacting Amazon direct, she received a full refund.
Seems that a dozen other buyers received nothing as well.
My experience with ebay/paypal over a year ago in a similar situation left me without the item or my money.

You are basically always dealing with Amazon, and not the seller.
You pay Amazon and Amazon pays the seller.  If you have a problem, you can still contact the seller to resolve, but if you get screwed Amazon itself stands behind the transaction and  resolves the problem.  There's very little risk.  Much better system for buyers than Ebay.

I'm not a seller so I can't speak to how that works with them.

The only problem I ever had with an Amazon seller was with a comic I ordered, and I resolved it with the seller.  Kind of.

I bought the comic, and it never arrived.  After several inquiries the seller finally admits he didn't actually have it in his inventory in the first place when I bought it, but guaranteed to obtain it and send it.  (Which was a policy stated in his store listing.)   I waited again for the book to come, but it never did, so eventually I negged him.

Soon after a refund appeared on my account.  I told him I didn't want a refund, I wanted the "guaranteed" replacement which he then said he couldn't provide.  I did remove the neg, because he at least refunded my money promptly.

Interesting, because as a SELLER I would never use Amazon.  



As a seller on Amazon I have no connection with the buyer, as they can do an "end run" around me to Amazon for a refund.  The impersonality if it is just not my style, I prefer a more hands on and personal interaction.



I can understand why buyers would love it....you are always right, and can get a refund for anything (justified or not). Some sellers (those who are less connected to the process, or just want to sell a few items) might enjoy the ease of dealing with Amazon, as they basically handle everything.



As a buyer, I like their selection, although often the prices are ludicrous for rare items. Case in point, a certain book I was looking for (crime novel of the 70s, very rare) was listed on Amazon for years at something like $100.  It's the only one I needed to finish out a series from this particular author. I had made offers, etc to the seller but they never replied on budged on the price.

The book finally came up on ebay last month. Final price for that book (and two others by the same author) was under $20.  I find generally prices for rare stuff are better on ebay, while prices for common stuff are better on Amazon.

The only real issue I have with Amazon is that they won't let me use PayPal.

Nice to know it's fairly positive in getting a refund then.  In my ongoing case its a dvd box set with a few of the dvds scratched or with tape residue.  Seller is offering a full refund so shall have to see how it goes.

As a seller I would never sell stuff on Amazon. I really don't have money to piss up a wall. Amazon don't give a damn about third party sellers and couldn't give a F whether you get paid or not.

As a buyer, you can get as much free stuff as you want from Amazon. Just ask for your money back claiming it was faulty, not received, or that you just don't want it and you'll get a complete refund. The seller can do sweet FA to stop you. And Amazon will keep your little scam a secret so you can screw as many sellers as you like. Just be sure to buy from Amazon themselves from time to time to keep them happy with you.

The Amazon system is so corrupt and their staff are so offensively ignorant that the system is well worth playing. Today I had to spend five whole minutes trying to get some American kid to get the spelling of my name right, just so he cound find my account. Then he asked me if I could spell my address. I ended up having to get a supervisor to the phone to get him to write it fown for his employee. The employee didn't even understand the concept of "I for India, A for Alpha..."!

Amazon is a like a big book store with all the D&D stuff at the back in darkenned rooms with no security and an open fire exit. You can go in, fill your bag and walk out, and the only person who will ever give a F is the schmuck who was stupid enough to put his stuff on sale.
