As for integrity of the seller etc - I'm not so sure he's done anything that the majority of others would have done in the same situation. This "holy trail" is just so much nonsense to the majority of the world, and most people would never have done any research on what they thought was a pretty straight forward item. Was someone right to have given the seller a heads up? Depends on their motives, it doesn't look like someone has just said I'll give you £100 for it, but it does look like some real information has been given along with a "reasonable" BIN price.
All conjecture on my part, but I reckon I'd be willing to take a neg and a bit if internet flak if it meant selling an item for over $3500 more :D

If I understand you correctly you're saying it's ok that the seller negated the sale for $30 and relisted for $3500?

That's a bunch of bullshit. I can think of a couple times where I listed something for $5 instead of $25, etc. etc. I honored the sale because not only was it the right thing to do, it was my screw up not the buyers. I sent a quick email stating 'nice catch!' and went on about my business

Hell I just did it yesterday. I had Batman the Dark Knight Book Two up and had listed it for $6 (easily worth 3x that.) Don't know what happened, but some comic collector got a good deal because of my screw-up

Done venting

Riiiiight...

Because $5->$25 or $6->$18 is in the same league as $30->$3500.

Everyone sets their integrity level where they want.  And it's often at different levels for different people.  Not only that, our integrity level changes and even modulates through the years although the modulation usually steadies as we age.  And if you set your integrity level below the majority, people will notice and often say something.  And if your integrity level leads you to break the law, then there are consequences, especially if you are caught.

One of the things I have noticed about gamers, is their emphasis on integrity overall.  I remember being so surprised at my first NTRPGCON how much stuff was left out in the open for days on end, often without any security or sales people in sight.  It impressed me.

Even these forums have several threads devoted to integrity, whether it's the misadventures of the Britty Kitty, or Noble Knight Games, or sellers selling things for ridiculously high prices.  I am not saying that these threads are bad primarily because they are so useful as I procure and assess my collection. And while I do appreciate the overall high level of integrity amongst gamers and support that, I'll be quick to add that I am no perfect paragon of virtue.   And for that matter, no one is.

Very noble move of you to pass up $12. I guess this is the "internet flak" gyg was referring to, and he didn't even list anything, just speculated a bit!

I'll chime in here and agree that there is a big difference between a seller standing behind a $10 mistake and someone getting screwed out of thousands of dollars. And no fingers pointing at anyone in particular here, but it is the stereotype of the worst of "collectors" that they dream of screwing someone out of $3,000 and hope to get out the door and down the street before the other guy figures it out.

I have to admit I found a Walking Dead 1 & 2 in a dollar bargain box while scrounging around some hole in the wall comic shop in Flint, Michigan a few years back. I felt like the airport drug smuggler from Midnight Express as I made the walk from the cash register to my vehicle.  My greatest score ever, but even today I feel guilty about it.

There are times I've been ripped and times I've scored.  That's life.

A local FLGS went out of business because they failed to pay their taxes.  The state came in a auctioned everything off.  About forty people attended the auction, including another FLGS owner, but most attendees were little boys who came in with their twenty dollar bills hoping they would be able to buy something.  Fortunately for me, the FLGS owner and his wife were only interested in comic books.  I'd bid up every comic book lot to $200.00 and they'd win it for $220.00.  There was also a crew of Yugioh and Pokemon fanatics who paid way too much for a bunch of cardboard crack. Most of the rest of the auction wins went to me, and I spent a total of $850.00.  I filled up a mini van three times with all my winnings and made thousands of dollars profit.  I am still selling stuff from that auction, but all the high dollar stuff is sold.

That's life, and I don't feel guilty about it at all.   8)

I have never felt guilty because a seller didn't do a little research before listing a Buy-It-Now.

Available now from Die Cast Games: Night of the Black Swords by Allen Hammack (Author of C2-The Ghost Tower of Inverness) with artwork by Jeff Easley and Diesel.

eBay has made it difficult to do research.  How do you research an item that hasn't sold in the last 90 days, as everything after that drops off their searches?  Additionally, the Acaeum price lists are often inaccurate.

I would disagree with part of this statement.  The valuations on the Acaeum are as accurate as you are going to get.  These valuations are culled from years of historical and current data related to validated sales.  But, that are also only an indicator, based on auction-related sales primarily, as these are the most valid sales when looking at supply-demand trends.  Valuations are moderated over historical sales trends, though, so if you are looking for the current high/low "spot price" that won't be what you get from the Acaeum.

That being said, it is annoying that eBay only retains the last few months sales data.  It wouldn't be too difficult to capture sales data succinctly (item, sales price, date) without all of the other metadata.  I imagine there isn't enough of a demand for it to justify adding this feature for the masses.  I would suspect that eBay has the capability themselves, and probably provides this capability, if you are willing to pay for it.

They do.  It's a third-party affiliate (I forget the name; something with a "T-", but probably owned by eBay) that will sell you sales data on a subscription model.  It's not cheap.

Yeah, the lucky buyer must've used the "Make Offer" option well.  It seems like 2016 was the year of OB3s :-).

After I sold one for 3k, folks seemed to decide to cash in at that price.
