I would grade it as POOR and if I were being generous, FAIR. There's a lot of staining on the front label, there is a LOT of shelf wear on the back and sides, the top doesn't appear to be dished in, but hard to tell from the photos, one corner has clearly parted company with it's neighbors, so... There's a split at one box lid corner.  I believe there is also a split in a box lid seam.  Don't forget, at least two of the three books have separated from their respective covers.  Staining isn't as big of a deal for me (as long as it's from wear or age and not Mountain Dew or Cheetos!).  Most of the booklets I look at (box sets and the supplements) show wear from handling.  I think the cover material that was utilized tends to be a bit unforgiving.

Without being able to see it (and  smell it) up close, it looks Fair- to me on my screen.
As an aside, staining to me always means 3rd party staining (mountain dew, fritos, human oils etc.). Wear (to me) means the disintegration of paper due to use (or shelfwear).

Ummm... Wow... A little pricey?

Without seeing the contents, I'd probably go with 'fair' for the box.  The box is intact (albeit, has some splitting on the edges) and the stickers are intact and present (while being discolored, some water staining, and a small bit of peeling).

Edit:  After reading about the booklets, I'd still stick with 'fair' overall.  I typically reserve 'poor' for items that are simply wrecked (i.e. crushed boxes, large tears and/or missing pages, etc...).

Fair...  It is not that bad for a poor grading...  Poor to my eyes is smtg totally uncollectable, this one is somehow still on the avceptable side...  Of course it s a metter of taste.

Yes, I also would say Fair.

Detached covers takes it down from good, as might the box depending upon splits etc.. But there is nothing substantial missing. I would go to poor if e.g. the box was missing the bottom and/or the books had no covers.  I guess depending on closer examination/pics you could assign -ve or +ve to the fair.

Note that, as he has it listed through the ebay shipping programme, it is showing, for me here in London, as attracting $305.86 in additional import fees (based upon the starting price, thus potentially even more), so unfortunately I will not be making any bids  

I have sold a few mini box sets recently and the shrink in the first one he has up matches the ones I have seen and sold. The second one (with 'messier' shrink) less so, but it could be a shop re-shrink. But these are more recent items - I can't speak to the B3, R1 etc..

Found a reason for the pricing on the same page the seller lifted his text from:
"In March 2008, a SW copy of the Orange B3 sold for $3,050 -- the highest (confirmed) sale price of any single non-unique D&D module"

Thus, if it sells, he/she will be able to claim that they have made the highest confirmed sale ever.

Can't say without examining the item in person. That said, regarding the ob3:
The entire shrink seems atypically smooth compared to others from that year.
I see no seam on the back.
I can find no air-hole.

Yes, originally.
Looks like it was removed (side offer?).

The wrinkly shrinkly on it and the two R's does seem original. Mind your dinks as always.
