It depends entirely if he is going to use an ebay invoice for the shipping. It sounds like there will be an invoice for the auction, then he works out the shipping cost and sends a paypal invoice. Maybe I'm wrong but I've never seen a set-up like that without someone trying to get around something.

Sounds like a good way to get out of that stupid fee on shipping.  Congrats to him really !!

Nice looking 2nd print woodie, but starting bid looks a little high; seller also has some other early D&D materials

Nice?
I do not think it is all that nice... According to the description:
Initials written at top right corner of all three books covers.
All three books have writing/markings inside.
Errata sheet has writing/markings as well.
Book two has separated pages.....
There are no reference sheets at all.
Nice looking box though and if that is what drives the OD&D sets prices up so much, then yeah, I guess I can sort of understand some folks saying this is a nice set...
I suppose a nice BOX is what most folks look for and pay loads more for with the OD&D box sets anyway.

No blue rule book and the inside booklet for B1 is also missing... Seller says cover only.
Basically an empty box with 2 Geomorph sets, some dice and a Monster and Treasure set.
Unknown if either of the Geos or the Monster and Treasure set are complete either.
Seller says complete or near complete... unknown...
Before going to high, might want to ask the seller some directly pointed questions.

Are those OD&D reference sheets pictured with the Holmes box? Maybe the seller mixed up the contents of the auctions?

Quite Possible.
Seller would be wise to get that issue corrected if so.
With the Ref Sheets the starting price does not seem out of whack to me.
Actually, Even without them, the starting price is not crazy high, though if it were my listing with items in same condition, starting price would be lower to encourage more bidding.

That was my thought, too.  But the woodgrain box itself is more support for the hypothesis that 2nd prints usually look better, for whatever reason.

They are for real; a miniature reproduction done as part of a TSR anniversary. It's a novelty item, not really usable for gaming, but a fun (and somewhat uncommon) ephemera. The lot is quite interesting and generating high bids as you can see.

Hector.

PS Welcome, by the way, to The Acaeum. Be afraid; be very afraid. This site is addictive.

Seller revised the 2nd print OD&D now adding the reference sheets with the rest of the box set.
Now it is a complete woodie...
Posted new picture showing top and bottom of the box, the ref sheets all three books and the errata sheet.
Now the starting price ($1,599) does not seem at all too high since it is a complete set and the pieces all look to be in great shape, even if everything but the box has writing.

Hell yeah. Those are going to go for some serious money, I would think.
