I work in Ophthalmology/Optometry and I am CERTAIN we're going to get a severe up-tick in the number of urgent requests for appointments in the next few days. We were joking about it last week, but now...

No doubt - I'm getting my setup out in another hour. I might wreck my camera but I'm not wrecking my eyes.

I have a friend in the Pacific Northwest that's a Pro Photographer and he burned his filter clean through doing test shots on the full Sun a few days ago. That Sun don't play around, not one bit. He's using monster lenses though, I'm just using my old Digital with a filter sheet taped on.

Saw a video on YouTube about the dangers of looking at the eclipse. This camera shop took one of their old digital SLR cameras, attached a HUGE telephoto lens to it, pointed it at the sun and set the shutter for 6 second exposure (about what you would do for an eclipse) and it MELTED the internal components and the CCD.

Which is easier to offer. (Tell them that the power lies within them if only they can see it - works every time.) Or just buy your players a pizza. They'll probably appreciate the pizza better than the magical powers.

Hey, man - I'm the DM.  The players should be buying ME pizza!

I'm pretty sure ExTSR knows how to get the Real Power.  And he's been holding out on us for 30 years!

My daughter is at summer camp today.  Mrs. Cooper and I spent the entire weekend warning her NOT TO LOOK AT THE ECLIPSE today.  I'm hoping the camp people are smart enough to keep the kids indoors.  I mean, she's 10 and she gets why you shouldn't stare at it, but there's younger kids there that might not listen and look up anyway.

I'm not usually Mr. Paranoid Dad, but this eclipse has me worried.  Probably for nothing.

I didn't feel like driving south, so I didn't get to see totality. 99.88% though - close enough for me.

Pretty sad when 10 year olds know better than our own President...

I'm still in awe of our government's lackadaisical approach to protecting the constitutional rights of its citizens.  Make no mistake, what we're witnessing is the suppression of free speech via threat of violence.  When this first started happening, I thought/hoped that this was all just sensational journalism, and that they were focusing on just a few bad apples.  Then I witnessed Boston first hand and learned otherwise ...  Sad times.

I do a fair bit of welding and I had the kids use my welding masks to look at it. Masks have a rating on the glass and as long as it is 14 or higher you're good. Believe me, looking at a flux weld in action is like a sunshot.

Sadly, much of the time protests are the epitome of hypocrisy. Anyone notice the guy with the "No Hate" sign helping another guy to steal private property and burn it because he doesn't believe in it?

Haven't seen any so far... However, with that being said, we haven't had a doctor in all week yet. Won't be in until tomorrow. :-(

This Is Why You Don't Attack a Magical Monster with Non-Magical Weapons:

50,000 join Facebook campaign to shoot down Hurricane Irma
'TENS of thousands of gun-toting Americans have joined a Facebook campaign to shoot down Hurricane Irma when it hits Florida..Some people appear to have taken the plan seriously, including one Facebook user who posted an image of himself holding a gun, along with the message: "I'm not going to sit around and wait, I'm going straight into the eye." Others responded to it with scepticism, with one user writing: "Isn't this just going to make the weather madder?"'

I like the little razzle dazzle that now appears around links on the Acaeum web-site when you click on them.   :)

Could Saruman have defeated the ents if he'd had an air force?
Plainville plane crash - YouTube
Apparently not. Poor Saruman, he'll never win.

Apparently not.

The pilot was clearly using that Ent as a pivot point to stop on a dime, turn 180 degrees, and park directly in line with the other cars in that parking column.  Well done, captain ...well done.
